NCNCA Board Members, Race Organizers, and Cycling Community,

I was not very hopeful last week when the number of new officials sign ups were half from last year. But I am pleased to say that in our first class today, we had 20 in attendance!

I'd like to thank you for helping us pass along the message and your referrals.

If you recognize any of the names and teammates, please be sure to encourage and support them through their officiating journey as there will be several requirements they need to complete. And if you see them at the Early Birds next week at the start / finish line, please be sure to stop by and thank them.

In other news, there are now only 7 events where no Chief Referees have signed up, all Velo Promo events.
Although the 20 candidates who complete the new officials program will probably not be qualified to Chief Referee, they can certainly help officiate and support the races as well.

Subject: 2023 Chief Referee Assignment -- Update #5

NCNCA Race Officials,

Happy New Year!

It's 2023 and the first event (early birds) is coming up in 5 days, and our first race is in 25 days!

Here are a couple of important updates and reminders:

(1) Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 21st, 2023 is our annual officials meeting in Fremont, CA. More details on the agenda will be forthcoming.

(2) Thank you to Rachel Marcuson in a big way who signed up for events as CR. We now have 6 events with nobody indicating availability.

Please help to review your schedules over the next week or two to indicate your availability on our wiki so that all events for 2023 are secure.

My message to sign up is not just for CR, if you are available to work, please help sign up! Several events have only 1 other official :(

It can't all be bad news, right?

(3) We will end on a positive note... thanks to the recruiting efforts of members in the cycling community, our board of directors, and officials, do you know how many potential new official candidates we have for the class of 2023?

20!

These are the number of new officials that have said yes to officiating!

But we all know recruiting is only part of the solution and how easily those numbers can drop. The best way we can ensure officials stay with the program and are motivated is to make sure we offer the right mentorship, training, and support throughout the first year. If you are interested, please let me know.

Look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!

Sincerely,
Ryan F
