The answer is "yes"....but the question is "why"? Isn't December base
mile time? I'll put something together/out tomorrow (Wed).
BTW...You gonna host the New Year's eve day ride out of Chappell Hill
on the 31st?

Here's a proposed route of 86 miles from the "new" Gas/Burger King
station at FM 1374/west-side I-45 frontage rd. (Just NW of New Waverly
itself).
7:15am meet...7:30am start.
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/60780658
Route is familiar stuff: S. on frontage to 1375 then west across Lk
Conroe to 149 to Richards and Anderson (Stop 1 at 32 mi). Then south
and east (1774 to 2819 back to 1486 heading N) looping back to
Richards then 149 east to Bays Chapel, Talifero to 1790 and 30 to
Huntsville (Stop 2 at 65 mi) and Vets Memorial to 1374 back to
station.
Current weather forecast is iffy....temps in 50s, 30% rain chance
(scattered).
So far Jesse, Bill W and myself are in.
Anyone else?

That’s a great route Greg! You might want to consider “maximizing” the Anderson hills by doing that loop “clockwise” rather than ccw…the two hard climbs up 1774 into Anderson are tough from that direction, and the climbs on 149 to Richards are tougher going east bound…that’s how the 2001-2003 Anderson Stage Race was setup.
I need to start ramping up mileage as well (so that 112 miles becomes a training ride)…and as Mark says, s/t the weather, and my Achilles tendon (got new running shoes at Luke’s Locker on Tuesday and after a 40 minute run yesterday, that tendon is very tender!) Will test it out at VRCycling studio tonight.
Steve
Hmm...for some reason, I've got it stuck in my head that the climbs
into Anderson from Richards are tougher...maybe because climbs are at
the end (entry into Anderson) as opposed to early on when going the
other direction (out of Anderson). Forget about the 1774 stuff...Can
always flip the route around some on Sat AM if that's the consensus as
it's completely flexible.
Looks like I'm going to need to do some serious wheel sucking on
Saturday....I've been popping like a champagne cork in the 65-75 mile
range lately!!
Hope the weather cooperates!

Just took a look and tomorrow's forecast is improving. 10% chance of
rain in Sat AM....growing to 20% by late morning.
Suggest everyone check here early AM to see if forecast is wrong and
any changes proposed (location/time). Will give a think on a plan B.

Bill was right...today was epic. 8 departed just after 7:30am (Mark
C, Mike A, Bill W., Jesse, Steve S, Mike L, and Mario!). Mark
Brown...what happened to you?
Weather was mild (around 50F) and we headed out together on 1375 west
to Richards and then onward toward Anderson..had some breakaway action
into Anderson and regrouped at the Shell there. We then headed S. on
1774 and east on 2819 into some decent headwinds....lots of good
paceline riding there and through Willis continuing east on 149 and
Bays Chapel/Talifero route to 1791. We split into two groups on 1791
with Mark, Mike and Jesse taking off and the rest of us working
together. After stopping at the Chevron in Huntsville we group rode
Vets Mem to 1374 before breaking into groups on the final 8 mile run
back to gas station (Chevron/Burger King) at 1374/I-45 frontage.
Finished with just over 87 miles at around 12:45 and I believe Mike
A's Garmin indicated 4500-4700' of climbing. My average for the day
was 19.7 mph (figure everyone was withing a +/- 0.5 mph band around
that).
Weather ended warm (60F and sunny) and the leaves were a spectacular
mix of green, yellow, brown, orange and red all day! How can you
beat a mid-December ride like that! Kudos to everyone for a really
fun, fast, yet safe ride today (an excellent balance between
aggressive and group-focused riding I thought). Everyone rode really
well and were very consistent out there. A day like today helped get
me my motivation re-fired up about riding...thanks guys!
Looking fwd to Jesse's New Year's Eve Day ride out of Chappell Hill on
Dec 31st.
