Greg and I were discussing this weekends ride after our 124 miler yesterday.  Greg is doing the Houston half marathon on Sunday so wanted to do 60-70 miles at a reasonable pace.  We decided on a route starting from the church on FM1314 half mile south of HWY242.  Start time will be 7:30.  The route is our old Friday route with an additional 10 miles added via Old Houston Road.

Greg, good luck on a "speedy" marathon Sunday.

As far as the ride on 01/18...I'm going to ride later in the day as the early Saturday morning temperature is forcasted to be around 30 degrees

Jim - thanks for setting up the Saturday ride....was a perfect day for it.

Enjoyed the nice just under 100k distance...think we averaged around 19.5 mph...and I was able to suck wheel most of the way!

My son and I had a good day at the Houston Aramco Half Marathon on Sunday...the weather was really good and both of us were happy with how it went.

1)  My son (17) ran it in 1:21:38...finishing 45th overall out of the 13,300+ runners (42nd male and 8th in the 16-19 age group)...he was 3 minutes better than '12

2)  I ran it in 1:33:57...finishing 232nd (196th male) and 21st in my age group (44-49)....I was nearly 13 minutes better than '12. Amazing what a bit of running training beforehand does for you!

Pretty sore today...but looking forward to riding next weekend (Jan 25th)....

Greg,

Congratulations to you and your son.  I also enjoyed Saturday's ride.  The pace was just right to have enough left for Sunday ride.  52 miles @ 21.2 average.

That’s a great half-marathon time Greg, for a mainly cyclist!  Think of how good you could be if you trained, lost another ten pounds (not saying you are too big, but it does matter in running long distances)!  You ought to try the Ironman!  The 45-49 year age group has some pretty serious dudes!  13 minutes is a huge improvement and just a little over 12 miles behind your cross country son!  Your son did very well too…must be in the genes!

Yes.
Great times for both of you.
Did you try to hang with your son at the beginning, or did you know better?

Thanks guys for all the congrats!

Steve - I used to be a bit of a "runner" before taking up cycling in 2006...you're right if I was 165 vs 175lbs I'd certainly go a bit faster but don't want to make the food intake sacrifices.    I don't really have any no interest in triathlons though as I don't like swimming much.

Mike L. ....No, I knew better than to try doing that..would of been hitching a ride at the end of the first 5k!  Saw him bouncing off into the distance and lost sight at the end of mile 1!  As a HS XC runner he's super fit!
