First you download the zip
files. Then you use a zip application (you need to have software such as
"winzip" or "winrar") to unzip the folder. Inside are a number of files
most of which have the suffix ".mp3" (this means they are audio files).
There are two, though, called "IC_Introduction" that have the suffix
".ppt". Those are powerpoint files. I think you can use either file
though I used the second (I had trouble using the first). Some folks might
need to use the first depending on which version of powerpoint they have.
To get the sounds to play with the
powerpoint slides, I played around with a few things (I'm no expert) and finally
got the sound to work. First of all, I would make sure that you unpack the
zip files into regular files on your hard drive. Next, when you boot
powerpoint (your computer will need to have this program from Microsoft), you
should receive a prompt to enable macros (and also possibly Active X). You
should enable that. If you don't get that prompt, click on the question
mark which should be on the right hand side (towards the top) of your screen in
powerpoint. This is the help menu. Type in "macros" and search for
help on macros. Once I enabled macros, I played with the "macros" button
at the end under the "view" tab. It will probably ask you where to find
audio files so you should specify the path for your unpacked audio files.
Then, to make the sound works after
you have enabled macros and run the macro, you need to be in "slide" mode in
Powerpoint. This means go to the "slide show" tab and choose the button
for viewing the slide show "from the beginning". Once you are in slideshow
mode (as opposed to the mode where you could edit the slide), you should be able
to click on a syllable and get it to play.
I hope this is not more confusing
than helpful. I am not at all a computer expert. I just played
around with it and thought I would convey what seemed to work for me. Good
luck.
