Dear software team,

I manage registration at competition and when I asked competitor about documents, his father send it to me from other e-mail.
Children often do not use e-mails, so they agree to change e-mail to the father's one (to increase informativeness).

So, please, change e-mail from super-v...@ukr.net to vale...@gmail.com.

Thanks a lot,
Roman Ostapenko

Hey Roman,

I have no idea what you are refering to, sorry. Which mail address do you want us to change? Is that a certain user account's mail address? If so, which user account are you talking about? Or is this a competition contact address? If so again, what competition are you talking about?

If you want us to make a change, you need to provide all adequate information to make this possible.

Have fun,

Sébastien

Well, there is only one account with aforementioned email, that is https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/users/8995/edit.
I guess that competitor can just register a new account for a new email, and then you (Roman) will remove WCA ID from an old account and add it to a new one.

And we will end up with another trash account? No thanks.

Of course there is at most one account with a certain mail address, since the mail addresses are unique identifiers for accounts.

The simple point here is, that with a proper change request, we shouldn't have to look up which account this is referring to, this information should be part of the initial change request.

@Roman: Is the account linked by Oleg the user account of which you want the mail address to be changed? Please confirm, then we can make the change.

I believe we already have tons of them. How about removing accounts without WCA ID if they are older than, say, 1-2 months? (Or is it already implemented?)

Good idea. Just to create cron script, and once a month remove all accounts that are older than 2 months and have no WCA ID.

Ok, I have changed the mail address.

Yes, we already have a ton of trash account, so that's rather a reason to not encourage more, right? :P

I have had many discussions about removing accounts with missing IDs with Jeremy in the past. The main problem with this is, that newcomers registering for a competition with WCA registration need to create such an account.

Then how about deleting account if it is not registered for any competition?

By the way, is it correct that if a newcomer registers for a competition with WCA account, then after results are published, he will be connected to WCA ID automatically? Or should it be done manually by a delegate?

+ one more "if"
if this account is registered at any competition => do not remove it.

Which raises the question if that is the correct design. In a world where multiple people share one email address, it might not be.

Oleg, please see https://github.com/cubing/worldcubeassociation.org/issues/21.

@Sébastien, @Roman, please don't change email addresses for people in the future. There's too much potential for mistakes/social hacking. They are able to change their email address by editing their profile.

Fair point, but there are much more productive things we could spend our time working on. This has an easy fix for the users, just create another email address. If you use something like gmail, you can even do the cute suffixing your email with +whatever trick.

Ok. Next time I will ask competitor to change his e-mail and will not disturb software team.
The only difference is that you will change address at my request, and competitor may forget about it.
