The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will hold an Open House on August 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with presentations at 4:30 and 6:00, at the Ypsilanti City Hall, 1 South Huron, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 (the original location did not have air conditioning). At this open house, MDOT will present updated proposed lane reductions and intersection reconfigurations on Washtenaw, Hamilton, and Huron streets in the City of Ypsilanti and receive public feedback. This open house will be held in accordance with all applicable public health and safety requirements in effect at the time.
The City and MDOT have been working together on safety improvements for Washtenaw, Hamilton, and Huron for the last several years. In late 2019, MDOT and the City jointly held an open house to present initial concepts regarding removing a vehicle traffic lane and installing a buffered bike lane on portions of these roads. Due to feedback received at and since that open house, MDOT and the City have updated these proposals to include changes at the intersections of Washtenaw/Hamilton and Cross/Huron as well as additional bike lanes and are seeking additional feedback from the public.
