Safer streets need your voice.
Will you help us get the VRU Bills passed?
Dear Friend,
Right now in Michigan, someone walking, biking, or using a wheelchair is significantly more likely to die in a traffic crash than someone in a vehicle. This isn’t just tragic, it’s preventable. That’s why the League of Michigan Bicyclists is calling on you to help us get Vulnerable Roadway User legislation across the finish line in Lansing.
This bipartisan legislation would ensure meaningful consequences when a driver seriously injures or kills a vulnerable road user, like a cyclist, pedestrian, or person in a wheelchair.
As a retired police officer and lifelong cyclist, I know firsthand how critical this law is. I’ve seen the aftermath of too many crashes that could’ve been prevented. This legislation isn’t about punishment, it’s about accountability, awareness, and saving lives.
We’ve made incredible progress. In May, I testified on behalf of bicyclists across Michigan in support of the Vulnerable Road User bills, asking legislators to help take major/meaningful steps toward justice and safer streets for all. We can’t afford to lose momentum, this climb needs your help!
Here’s how you can help right now:
1. Call your Michigan senator.
Ask them to vote YES on the Vulnerable Roadway User legislation. It takes just a few minutes, but your voice makes a powerful difference. Click here for a script and tips on talking to your senator and their staff.
➡️ Find your senator:
2. Donate to the League of Michigan Bicyclists.
Your gift will fuel our advocacy work in the Capitol and on the ground. Every dollar helps us fight for a safer Michigan for all road users.

We've been working hard to get this critical legislation across the finish line, and now we’re so close to making this bill a law. With your voice and your support, we can make sure these lifesaving protections become law this year. The VRU bills are one example of the advocacy your support powers— steady, intentional work toward a Michigan where we can all ride, walk, or roll without fear. Your representatives need to hear from you! They will pay attention if they are contacted by you, as their constituent.
Thank you for riding and advocating alongside us.
With hope and determination,
