Thanks for sharing Bruce!
I am copying over additional details from the League of American Bicyclists for more context -

If you haven't been following along the administration is on a tear attacking bike lanes.

First there was the tweet about defunding "DEI bike lanes"

And today the Administration's priorities for Reauth were released which include:
  • Restricting competitive and formula grant funding for bicycle lanes and other bicycle infrastructure that reduce travel throughput for motor vehicles and support removal of existing bike lanes that contribute to congestion.

  • Removing Transit funding from the Highway Trust fund

WHAT YOU CAN DO
  • Amplify the action alert around  Proven Safety Countermeasures.  (The link includes an Action Alert). We are focused on the Proven Safety Countermeasures because the move has been getting a lot of bad press and we want to continue that push!
  • If you know the staffer, write them a personal email about your concerns overall)

THE MOST EFFECTIVE THING YOU CAN DO - Congress leaves town next week for 5 Weeks.  They will be in the district- PLEASE reach out them in their home offices, take them for a bike ride (we have microgrants for that)

Let them know that bicycling infrastructure is important in their district

I appreciate you adding to this, Matt.  It is quite over the top and overwhelming how this doesn't seem to stop.

Be safe out there everyone!

UPDATE from our friends at the League of Michigan Bicyclists:

The League of American Bicyclists is asking people across the country to speak up.

We're asking you to contact your members of Congress and urge them to ask USDOT why these proven safety measures were removed from federal guidance.

Specifically, ask them to join the call for a congressional briefing to explain:

  • Why evidence-based safety countermeasures were removed from federal guidance.
  • How state and local agencies are expected to identify proven safety improvements without these resources.
  • Why longstanding, research-backed recommendations are no longer being promoted.

Every community deserves access to the best available safety information when designing roads. Decisions that affect public safety should be transparent, evidence-based, and accountable.

The League of American Bicyclists has made it quick and easy to contact your members of Congress. Take action today by clicking the button below:

Tell Congress: The Safety of Bike Lanes Can't Be Erased

Thank you for helping us advocate for safer streets and better bicycling for all.
