RIP Danny Stiles, NY/NJ r&b and big band DJ and "oracle"

Truly the last man standing from a particular era – actually several eras. When I was in junior high and high school we could barely get WNJR through the static, but Danny Stiles “taught” me some of the best r&b of the time. Thanks to them I heard Bobby Blue Bland, The Velours, and lots of great doo-wop and blues artists.

 

At the time of his death this week, Danny Stiles left open airshifts at FOUR radio stations! Pretty good for age 87, I’d say….
