He died 5/3/21 in New Rochelle, NY, my home town, at age 88.
I was lucky to have known Lloyd (we were on a first name basis for a couple of years) in my early days music-directing WBRU when he had Double L Records at 1650 Broadway. He gave me copies of Wilson Pickett's first solo 45, "If You Need Me," Pookie Hudson's strange "I Know, I Know," Roy Tyson's great uptempo doowop "Oh What a Night for Love," and the single and album of his own big band version of "Misty." He was a true gentleman, a talented musician and a warm person; he was also responsible for me getting to meet Stevie Wonder when he was 13 at Motown's New York office. I'll put the gratitude out there now: I have been very lucky to get to know and meet the people I have - everyone reading this dispatch included.
