SENDER:
My name is Jo and I work at the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes. We are conducting a national study which focuses on people living with type 2 diabetes in rural communities and asking them how access to diabetes research and services should be improved. As I am sure you are well aware, people living in rural communities have a higher rate of diabetes but less access to healthcare services compared to those people who live in cities.
We have been conducting the study for the past 3 months and have been finding it hard to reach people living in Western Australian rural communities who have type 2 diabetes. While I appreciate that the focus of your centre is different to our study, we are trying to reach people living with T2D with different backgrounds and experiences.
I am hoping that you would be willing to help us promote our diabetes study either through social media or through specific programs that you run that may be relevant to this study. I have attached our study flyer to provide further information. I would be happy to post you 10-15 printed pamphlets if that was easier. I am not asking you to directly recruit participants, interested people are asked to contact me directly or sign up online via the link.
In summary:
· Our study focuses on advocating for people living with type 2 diabetes in rural communities to increase access for diabetes research and services.
· Taking part involves a one-off 30 minute telephone or video interview with myself discussing experiences of living with type 2 diabetes in rural communities and thoughts about how to increase access to diabetes research and services. The interview can be scheduled at a time and day that works for the participant.
· To acknowledge contribution to the study, all participants receive a $40 gift voucher.
We would be grateful for any assistance, particularly your thoughts on how best to get the word out in rural communities. If anyone in your community is interested in taking part, they can either contact me on 0412 344 965 or email me: jojo...@acbrd.org.au.
I would be more than happy to chat about this further if that is easier.
Many thanks for your consideration.
Jo
