How to change field types?

Hello,
I currently have a few different AWS field types that I would like to perform calculations on such as sum, average, min/max, etc but am unable to do so. I believe it is due to the fact that the fields are decoded as string types and not number types? Can you please help me with how I can change this? I have attempted to use the pencil icon next to the field however my type drop-down is grayed out and does not let me modify.
