New Airport Cusco
Peru is going ahead with the construction of a high-volume airport at Cusco in southeastern Peru, despite controversies over potential risks the Pampas of Chinchero, an ecological monument that is part of Peru’s Incan heritage. The airport will increase in quality and quantity, to make sure that it will be able to handle high volumes of traffic in this touristic area. The existing airport's limited capacity has cost Peru key international airline links. A recent project contains the acquisition of farm land that is required for the planned expansion of the facility.

Fake Dollars in Peru
BBC Mundo recently reported that Peru seems to be the main producer of fake dollars. Approximately 17% of the fake dollars found in the United States come from Peru. At the beginning of August, the police had found $2.3 million in fake dollars and arrested Joel Quispe Rodríguez, part of the "Quispe Rodriguez clan". This year, US$17 million were already seized, most part was meant to be sent to the US and other countries where the dollar is used, like Ecuador. J. A. Ramirez from the Central Bank of Peru considers that 0.5% of all the bills (soles and dollars) in Peru are fake.

Festival Santa Rosa
On August the 30th, Lima celebrates the Santa Rosa of Lima festival. From 1671, the city pays tribute to its Patron saint with dances and processions, as well as other entertainments. The feast begun during the Spanish colonial government, which wanted to establish Mission grounds for the indigenous people at the end of the 18th Century. Santa Rosa, first named Isabel Flores de Oliva, was the first person in the Americas to be canonized as a saint, by Clemente X in 1671. She is also the Patron saint of the national Police of Peru and the Armed Forces of Argentina.

Underground Market
Saturday 9th June saw the very first edition of the Buenos Aires Underground Market produced by The Argentina Independent. Based on the successful model started in San Francisco, food vendors came together to sell their wares at the IMPA worker-run factory in Almagro. With more than 700 visitors and a over 15 vendors the afternoon was packed with yummy goodness. An underground market is a one-day event that provides the opportunity for amateur chefs, artisanal food producers, and creators of amazing homemade food to sell their wares to a hungry and receptive audience of local and expat foodies. For the second edition, the organisers are looking for vendors to create and sell their own dishes at the Buenos Aires Underground Market. If you are interested in becoming a vendor at the second edition, please email undergro...@argentinaindependent.com for full details.

Heavy Storms Expected
At least 200 people had to be evacuated in six Buenos Aires province districts due to the heavy rains and hails that began earlier on Friday. The National Weather Forecast Service (SMN) reported that the rains might continue for the next hours. Those recently evacuated join the 420 that still remain at shelters after last week's heavy rains, the provincial Emergency Council stated. According to the SMN, the situation will continue at the Northern area of the province for the next hours. Following an unusually warm day, temperature dropped as heavy rains were expected to hit the City. On Saturday, a blast of cold weather will hit the city with light southerly winds, and temperatures between 4 and 14 degrees.
