The time between getting hired (all paperwork submitted) and the generation of your NetID is typically one business week. At this point your NetID will be ready for activation. However, there are many circumstances where the process could take significantly longer. If your NetID is still not ready for activation after one business week, you may contact the OIT Support Center for information.
To activate your NetID, please go to the Identity Portal, select Activate my NetID, and follow the instructions. To begin the process, you will need to know one of the following pieces of information.
Once the activation process is completed, you will be given your NetID username. Once you receive your NetID username, you will be able to use it immediately on most University systems. Once complete, it is recommended that you immediately enroll in NetID Self-Help.
Note: If you are a student, faculty, or staff member that is returning to the University, you do not need to activate your NetID if you can still login successfully. However, you should Activate Missing Services to ensure that you have access to the services you are eligible for.
If you are a new UW-Madison faculty/staff member and do not have a Wiscard, contact your HR department. They will provide you with either the 10-digit Campus ID number or a 12-digit activation key. Enter that number in the field.
Note: All UW-Madison students and current faculty/staff must have a valid UW-Madison Campus ID number in order to activate their NetID account. New UW-Madison faculty and staff who need to activate their NetID prior to obtaining a Campus ID number must contact their HR department. You may have a Campus ID number even if you do not possess a physical UW-Madison photo ID card. For more information about obtaining your ID number, see Help Desk - I need my Campus ID/Wiscard number.
Important: If you already have a NetID, it is imperative that you click the link in the above message rather than activating a second NetID. You will then be prompted to login with your existing NetID and password, and walked through the process to link you new affiliation to your existing NetID. If you forget your existing NetID or password, see NetID Account Recovery (Password Reset). If you are unable to obtain the NetID and password using this tool, call the DoIT Help Desk. The only scenario in which you should activate a second NetID is if the Help Desk informs you that your existing NetID is inactive.
Please read the Appropriate Use Guidelines on page two of the activation process. Scroll down to the bottom of this window and highlight the I Accept radio button. Click Next.
The Appropriate Use Guidelines continue on page three of the activation process. Please read these guidelines and click the I Understand button at the bottom of the screen to continue.
Select the question you would like to answer using the drop-down arrows to the right of the question. Type your answer in the box below the question. When you have answered all three questions, click the Save my answers button.
You must now set a password and a recovery email for your NetID account. Please note the password requirements on this screen. Enter your password twice at the bottom of this screen. Enter a recovery email address that does not end in wisc.edu in the Recovery Email field. Note that you will need to confirm this email address by clicking on the confirmation link you will receive once you've completed the activation process. Click the Activate Account button.

NetIDs are provided to active members of the University community as a result of having been entered into myHR (faculty/staff) or CAESAR (students). If you are a faculty or staff member, your personal information has been entered into myHR by Human Resources. If you are a student, your personal information has entered by the University Registrar.
You must activate your NetID before you can use it. You will be notified when your NetID has been created and you can begin the NetID activation process. Faculty and staff receive information about NetID activation from their department NetID coordinator. Students receive their NetID Activation Code from their school or the Admissions Office.
Your NetID is your key to the tools and resources Northwestern has to offer. Once you have received an activation code from your department's NetID coordinator, you can activate it by going to NUValidate.
After receiving an email notification from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions that your NetID is ready for activation, please follow these steps to activate your NetID. You will need to do this on a computer as the process is not compatible with phones or tablets.
It may take several days for your NetID to fully activate through Yale's information systems. You will not be able to access the Yale Connect page for incoming students until both your NetID and Yale email account have been activated. If you have difficulty activating your NetID, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 203-432-2900 or visit the ITS Help website to start a chat or report a problem.
New students can activate their UCSB netid within 24 hours of signing their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). They must provide their last name, student perm number, date of birth, and last four digits of their social security number (SSN). Please enter four zeros if you do not have a SSN.
New faculty and staff can activate their netid once their payroll record is completed in UCPath by a UCSB department. Employees must provide their last name, employee ID number, date of birth, and last four digits of their SSN. Please enter four zeros if you do not have a SSN.
Professional and continuing education students can activate their netid once their record has been created by the Extension department. Extension students must provide their last name, extension ID number, and date of birth to activate their netid.
New affiliates or guests fall outside the general population of students and employees. Affiliates must provide an annex locator and date of birth to activate their netid. The annex locator should be provided to them by the UCSB department that created their account.
Please note that if you already have a UCSB netid that you should not activate another one. If you find that your original account was not reactivated or a new affiliation was not added to your current netid, please contact one of the campus help desks.
Please note that activating a UCSB netid also creates a default UCSB email address at Google. The syntax of the default address is ne...@ucsb.edu but your department may add an alias to be used instead of the default based on their particular email address policy. Students automatically get an email alias of ne...@umail.ucsb.edu.
Before a netid can be activated, a record must be created in the campus identity system. This record can come from different sources depending on your affiliation to the university: a record for faculty/staff is created in payroll, a record for students is created by the Registrar, and a record for affiliates of the university can be created by a UCSB department. Each affiliation is assigned an identification number that can be used to activate your netid.
Your account can have multiple affiliations, but it needs at least one to be active. The source of the affiliation determines how long it will last. A new affiliation can reactivate an old account, so there is no reason to activate another netid.
New students must wait until their record reaches campus identity before they can activate their netid. Please understand that there is a delay between the time you sign your SIR and the student record reaches campus identity.
Your netid account is made up of one or several affiliations each with its own end date. For example, a student affiliation end date is automatically rolled forward to the next quarter if they continue to be enrolled at UCSB. The employee affiliation end date is determined by payroll. Affiliate end date periods are generally one year and can be renewed by the department. You need at least one affiliation for your netid to remain active.
2. After your deposit is processed, an email from netid-ac...@cornell.edu will be sent to the email address used for your Cornell application with instructions to activate your NetID and email. (It can take up to two business days for your NetID to be created once your deposit is processed. Note that the email might land in your spam/junk folder.)
You will receive an email with instructions to set up your NetID via ApplyWeb. If you already have a Cornell NetID from a previous role with the university, you do not need to activate it as other students do.
If you choose to forward your Cornell email to an outside account, you can set that up in Google. Before you decide to forward your Cornell email to a non-Cornell account, please be aware of policy changes by the major email senders that may impact your email delivery.
It is recommended that if you have a Cornell email address you use your @cornell.edu account to send and receive Cornell-related mail. This will ensure that you do not miss important university communications.
