I tried to import a file into Google Sketcup and unfold the it in
Waybe and got nothing but chaos. I'm sure this is a problem with
Sketchup as in importing specific file types. Does nyone have a
solution to this, or advice?

Thank you.

First off, check to make sure all the faces are connected properly.
I've seen that problem before. Second, check to see if there are
internal faces; the object actually has to be unfoldable for Waybe to
work properly.

If there are internal faces and you need them, split the model up
using the split tool on the manual toolbar, then unfold it.

If all else fails, there is a manual unfold, where you can directly
say which face should go where.
Good luck! (If you can send us the file, I can take a closer look at
it, too.)

Great, thanks for the help. It was a 3DS file and had many
internal faces. this is the reason for the problem, this and
the way google imports the file.

Thanks again.

Ryan,

I've been trying to get Waybe to unwrap several files
and have virtually the same problem every time.

It seems that no matter what the file type, if you do
not create the object in Google Sketch-up it will
not unwrap correctly.

Do you have any advice?

It looks like I'm going to have to re-download everything
as I've had three hard drive crashes in a little over a month.

Please advise on waybe. Are there any new tutorials?
Perhaps it's my fault, or a problem on my end.

Thank you.

Hi Joe,

Waybe assumes that all the faces are fully connected and that there
are no internal faces. If either of those are not true, you'll have to
do some manual massaging of the file. I think the importer also treats
the file as one large object; if the object is not actually unfoldable
without cutting it apart, you'd have to split it up yourself. Waybe
isn't smart enough to do object recognition.

I'd look at using the "split" and manual unfolding tools. You can get
to these by clicking on the hammer.
The automatic unfolder also assumes that everything is grouped. If you
have a very complex file, especially with internal faces, it has to be
split up into groups that Waybe can deal with.

There is a "test unfold" button that you can use on each piece to make
sure it works as well.

Any more than that, and I'd have to see a file to speak about it.

Sorry that I haven't been around the forums; it's nuts here.

Understood everything you wrote back, I'll give you suggestions a try, ot attempt to recreate the object from scratch in Sketch-up and try it that way.

It's been crazy here as well, no reason to appologise.
