WAX could go the DOM way through W3C's open process for Community
Groups [1]. I used to spend time with the DOM QA WG folks for
example... WAX is pretty useful, mature and applicable to many
languages. Why not push it forward? The new W3C process is an
opportunity to make it even more useful IMO.

Do we have a sufficiently compelling case now that XMLStreamWriter is out there, shipping with Java 6?

Would it make sense for WAX to use XMLStreamWriter as the XML formatter on the JVM?

(If I get inspired, I might do a Gosu implementation.  Gosu runs on the JVM and has closure syntax.)

Just checked it out so i might be missing something but, isn't that just
an interface and a java specific one at that?

My main language is java but still, i only see XMLStreamWriter as
relevant in helping me implement WAX or providing an Adapter from/to WAX
in our context.

I suppose it could, especially if no dependencies other than the JRE
would be needed. Waxy is pretty mature already though.

However, what i had in mind was moving forward an API much like DOM was
worked on in W3C back then and not focusing on a specific
implementation. Testsuites could perhaps be developed as part of the
effort as the DOM QA folks did. I even think we got lots of material on
that already.

This can get going with 4 people. No fees or whatnot is required for the
community track. What do you guys think?

'javax.xml.stream.XML*' implementation included in Java 6 (and available as 3rd party library for Java 5), as documented by Mark Volkmann:

So yes, it's JVM only.

That's two people! Or three? Come on lets go for it!

We have a sum total of ten people on this mailing list.  (And I think that four of them are just spammers.)
