Vandana needs our help!

Dear Wave supporters, 

Some of you know Vandana who was part of the 2009 batch of videoblogging mentees. She got a full scholarship to Prague Film School - quite an accomplishment! But she is short of some funds (3.5 lakhs) to cover her educational needs. I'm appealing to you all to help her if you can. You can donate a camera or mac laptop or perhaps refer her to someone who can donate these. Else, maybe you know of some sponsors who can give her a donation or loan. Due to personal reasons, she cannot approach her family for help also. 

Vandana is a very talented filmmaker and I'm sure she will go on to do great things. Let's help her realise her dreams.

How are you? I hope you are doing good.

I remember when I got admission I did ask you about potential sources
of funding and you suggested a few websites but there are hardly any
grants specific to Indian women studying film. I talked to Angana too
while I was in Dharamshala and she suggested I try Rotary but they
stopped their study abroad grant a couple of years ago. I have been
trying to raise money since 5 months now and I have succeeded
partially.

Since I have no financial
support from them (her family) and I worked in Jagori for a salary (7500
rupees/month) with which I could only sustain myself, I dont have any
assets. Therefore, I cant take a bank loan. Also, when I applied for
the scholarship, I had no idea that even if one's tuition is covered
there are so many other costs involved.

Initially I felt all this was too personal to disclose to people but
then I realized that if I am seeking help then people should know the
reasons behind it.

I have raised 3,60,000 rupees already. I need to raise 3,35,000 for my
living expenses, airfare, a laptop and a camera. I can also manage
with part time jobs there but some of my donors are insisting that I
have all my funds before I leave so that I dont run the risk of
running out of money and returning mid-way. That is why I just have
nearly 10 days to collect all the funds.

I wonder whether publishing all this on the WAVE blog would be useful
or not. But we can try. Also, can you think of any people who might be
interested in sponsoring me or maybe donating a camera or laptop? I
will need a Mac and a good camera as I will be learning photography
for cinematography as one of my electives.

Thanks for all the support. WAVE has been a turning point in my life
because it gave me strength to dream and I dreamt of studying film. I
hope I can realize my vision with everyone's goodwill and help.
