Outline:
Water management in the Murray-Darling Basin is an important national issue. The Commonwealth Environmental Water Office manages over $2 billion of water holdings on behalf of all Australians.

The northern half of the Murray-Darling Basin has a highly variable hydrology. The Commonwealth manages an assortment of licence types to contribute towards achieving a range of ecological outcomes (e.g. fish, waterbirds, vegetation health) which contribute towards Australia meeting a number of international agreements, such as those relating to biodiversity and wetland health. It's a complex issue, and making informed judgements, planning, adaptation, monitoring and learning is important.

During this webinar, attendees will hear from a presenter who works in the 'engine room' of the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office, informing decisions on the use of large amounts of water.

This presentation will fuse hydrology, ecology, and real-world practical consideration. The beauty of the northern Basin will be showcased in a very visual way, exemplifying environmental engineering in action.

Speaker:
Dr Lindsay White: Director, Northern Basin Wetlands, Policy and Northern Water Use Branch, Commonwealth Environmental Water Office, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment

Lindsay White is the Director within the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office. Lindsay has a long history of managing rivers to improve environmental outcomes. His career has taken him from rivers in Gippsland, north to the Murray and now to the Barwon-Darling and other rivers in the northern half of the Murray Darling Basin.
