Dear All,

I hope this email finds you well.

We are pleased to announce the official dissemination of the National Public Financing Plan for Water Supply in Rural Areas of Cambodia (attached and also below link: The National Public Financing Plan for Water Supply in Rural Areas of Cambodia | UNICEF Cambodia), which has been fully endorsed by both the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) and the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD). This plan represents a crucial step towards achieving Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goal (CSDG) 6.1 related to universal access to safe water supply in rural areas. Below are some key highlights of the plan:

  • Objective 1: Estimating the investment gaps to achieve Cambodia’s SDG 6.1 in rural areas.
  • Objective 2: Identifying the necessary financing sources and defining strategies to mobilize these investments.

The plan is structured around three different investment scenarios, all related to CSDG 6.1:

  1. Scenario 1 (Ambitious):
    • 100% access to basic water supply and 45% access to safely managed water supply by 2025, with 100% access to safely managed water supply by 2030.
    • Total investment required: $1,820 million for climate-resilient water services.
  2. Scenario 2 (Moderate):
    • 100% access to basic water supply and 45% access to safely managed water supply by 2030, with 100% access to safely managed water supply by 2035.
    • Total investment required: $1,720 million for climate-resilient water services.
  3. Scenario 3 (Conservative – business as usual):
    • 100% access to basic water supply and 45% access to safely managed water supply by 2035.
    • Total investment required: $1,103 million for climate-resilient water services.

This strategic plan lays a solid foundation for mobilizing the necessary resources to meet the country’s water supply goals, ensuring both sustainable and equitable access to water for rural communities across Cambodia.

We are looking forward to your support in promoting and implementing it.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Soriya
