Dear Dog Lovers and Dog Park Advocates,
I have asked Deb Whitman to forward the invitations and requests in this email to the members of the Dog Park Task Force. I hope you will give it a careful read and get back to me with your thoughts, questions, or concerns.
1) First, a THANK YOU to those who attended a recent meeting of our Public Health Commission at which its members reviewed the dog ordinance and took comments from those in attendance. I was unable to attend the meeting but I have learned it was a productive meeting and a good introduction for our new Director of Public Health, Deborah Rosati to the Town’s strong and involved community of dog owners.
2) I ask that you reserve Tuesday, July 21 for a meeting of the Committee on Human Services, which I chair at 7:00 PM in the Town Council Chambers at Town Hall. The Committee will be discussing dog park regulations. It is a very important meeting that requires a strong showing for those who support the How Dog Park and future dog parks in Watertown. It is important that everyone have input into the regulations that govern how dog parks in Watertown will operate.
3) Please keep an eye out for an announcement of a meeting to discuss the redesign and construction of the entrance to Filippello Park on Grove Street. This is where the new dog park will be created per the order of the Committee on Public Works. I do not know when this meeting will take place, but we need to be there in force to guarantee that the Town fulfills its pledge to locate a dog park at this site. You can keep checking my web site at www.councilorpalomba.com to learn when this topic will be discussed. I will also post in on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/councilorpalomba and included it in a Town Council Update which I send by email. If you do not already get my Updates it means I do not have your email address. Please consider sending it to me at councilo...@gmail.com

You may have heard about the Community Preservation Act (CPA) and the effort of a group of residents to put the question on the November 2016 ballot. In short, a favorable vote on the question would allow for a surcharge on real estate taxes of 1 – 3% that would be matched by a state contribution at a rate of approximately 20%. Funds from the CPA can only be used to support recreation and open space, affordable housing and historic preservation. There is no guarantee that this effort will be successful, however it is important that we get a sense of the priorities of organizations, like the Task Force, whose interest would fall into one of the three use categories. To that end, it would be greatly appreciated if you answer the following question to the best of your ability and share it with me by email at councilo...@gmail.com.
If the CPA was passed and approximately $2 million was available, how would your organization like to spend some of that money - tell us your priorities? Please feel free to let your imagination be your guide!

Finally, I want you to know that I will be running for re-election to the Town Council in November. I am gathering the 200 signatures needed to put my name on the ballot and putting the pieces in place for a success campaign. I hope I can count on one of your four votes for Councilor at-Large. If you would like to help the campaign, please do not hesitate to drop me an email at councilo...@gmail.com or give me a call at 781-664-3525.
Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon,
Tony
