Hi Friends,

Someone sent this to me asking if it's something we can/should do for the Dog Park in Watertown. I will admit that, with the current demands at the law firm, I do not have time to get the necessary paperwork, as laid out in the contest rules:

Looks like we need letters from the owner of the land showing their support, and a civic leader of some sort, and any media attention we've gotten.

Does any brave soul want to step up to the plate to gather the info? I would be happy to submit it and then bug people to vote..

Best,

Shannon

That's the potential for a lot of money. However, does Watertown want to be involved with a commercial advertising enterprise? I wonder if we need to think a little more about appropriateness? One of our parks is developer paid for. The town is putting up a fence at How Park for very little cost, is my guess. The Grove/Arsenal is the one. But questions remain. Any thoughts? Must run, Barbara R

I sent the dogpark notice and thought funds (like grant money) could move us along.  Please understand this is nothing like inviting Walmart into the community although even grantors want some type of acknowledgement - sometimes as little as a reference on their site. Laura

I think for $100K, I would be just fine with being "involved" with a commercial advertising enterprise. I don't see how this is inappropriate, personally. As Laura said, this isn't akin to a "big box" plastering themselves all over our park. (And thanks, Laura for sending this to me - sorry I didn't give you credit before!) To my knowledge, PetSafe is a very transparent company. There is a plethora of information on their website about their company structure, information on all their Directors, extensive information on their products and safety testing procedures, and community outreach.

Best,

Shannon

Understood. I'd like to hear more about how it works. $100,000, or even doggie drinking fountains are not to be snorted at. We would have to get the whole town to vote for the town project in order to win? I guess that's the advertising part. Barbara

Hello all,

I was off this list for a while, but somehow.. I've started receiving emails again.  I moved out of Watertown almost 2 years ago.  Mind taking me off the list?  Thank you!  Good luck!

If we need a town vote the timeframe will preclude entry. If we can present the idea to a town official understanding we might not win is the only approach. Is tony p on this list?:

H Everyone,

I have cc'd Tony for his thoughts, but it would seem that our problem is that we do not have an approved site for the 3rd dog park...both possible locations are Town owned not privately held...not sure if that matters for the contest or not.

Deb, Shannon, et. al.,

This sounds like a very interesting idea.  I would like to ask the Town Auditor and the Director of Community Development and Planning about the possibility of participating.  However, I am a little lost on the details and I know from experience they will want the details!

Can someone send me as an attachment, the proposal, and I will find out by the end of the week if we can/should move forward and if the Town needs to be involved.

Thanks,
Tony

Hello Councilor & Task Force,

Let me see if I can help. As I said, as much as I would love to spearhead this, I simply can't with the demands of the firm right now. I basically copied and pasted what I could from the website into various docs, which I am attaching as a zipped file. The Official Rules, FAQs, Overview, and letter templates are included.

I DID enter us in the contest, that part was easy, but we won't be eligible to win unless we get a land use letter signed and a community leader letter signed. Both are provided as templates in the zipped folder. Would anyone like to step forward to get these letters to the appropriate parties? Here is a URL for tools and templates once we get approval:

You can vote HERE for our park (so start voting NOW, but we can't win with out those letters!)

You can become a page admin to upload videos, etc, here:

I would encourage members of the Task Force to become admins and contribute content. We should get this rolling because we don't have a lot of time. The contest is over June 7th. We can build the page out, I can post the info on Facebook, and then if/when we get the official letters, we would be eligible.

Best,

Shannon
