Hey Bat-Packers,

It's been way too long. I hate that this is why I'm reaching out, but wanted to make sure you all got the news and thought this might be the easiest way to get to all of you: we got word that Scott took his life on Wednesday morning. He was at home with his mom. In the time since, we got an update from his friend Ian, in NY:

I spoke to Scott yesterday, he wasn’t in a great mood, but we talked about therapy and treatment and how he would spend his time in Texas. What I took away from our last conversation was that he was trying. He was just not submitting to this horrible disease that ultimately did overcome him. He reached out when he needed help, he sought treatment. He fought for himself. I can’t imagine the kind of pain he was in. And if there’s one thing we can take solace in, it’s that he isn’t hurting anymore.

There will be a memorial on Monday at 1pm CST at Woodcreek Church in Richardson, TX. I believe they will be streaming the service as well, for any that can't make the trip. As soon as I have more info on that, I will pass it along. 

Scott's family has also started a Google Photos shared folder and they're asking that all of his friends add any photos of Scott they have. 

Scott was the best of us and to say he'll be missed is the biggest understatement. Please send out all the good vibes and prayers for his family. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to try and answer them. Love and miss y'all.

This is truly devastating. Scott was an amazing human being down to the core. Would love to know if anyone sets up a memorial fund or anything in his name. Thank you for sharing with the group James. ❤️

Too long since I saw him. We should do a reunion in his honor. I'm hoping to be in Texas end of the year. Just thinking.

As far as I know, he had been dealing with depression for a while but I wasn't aware of how bad it had gotten. The note from his friend Ian is probably more informed than me in that regard. I do know that his mom flew up to NY last week to drive him back home because he reached out for help.

A few of us saw him in Austin in January and he seemed ok. We all commiserated about how COVID had fucked so much up about our lives but none of us had any inkling that things were this bad for him. We didn't hug bc COVID and I hate that so much, but he was his usual, light, giggly Scott.

And I am 100% down for a reunion at the end of the year.

Dear Ones,

I haven't checked this inbox in some years and didn't realize things weren't forwarding.  So I'm just learning about Scottie and only just now grieving with you.  Feels strange.  

My heart feels so sad to have lost touch as well.  Sweet Scott.  I can't even imagine the kind of pain he must have been tormented by.  I wish we could have been there for him.  Perhaps we can be there for his mom and include her in a reunion?  I'd love to reconnect with you all.  Looking back, I didn't get to enjoy some of those weekend trips because I had to work...booo. So glad to have had your friendship though.  Those really are treasured years in my book.

Many of my memories are from college and summer camp.  Kids loved him and he was always so great with those little guys.  Seems like he always had a blue bandana on his head.  Since he was one of the ropes course counselors, he was often encouraging and cheering on kids and counselors to be brave and celebrating them when they conquered their fears.  He was so good at it.
