We finally launched - rather quietly - a new Waterbirth International
website and eStore last Friday. The comments coming in have been very
gratifying, especially knowing all the hard work and effort that went
into creating it. My son, Abe, designed the header, but the majority
of the layout and work was done by our very capable office manager,
Jackie Sterns. We are hoping to get a few more photos up there, soon,
but right now, there are photos on every page, along with a feature
that Jackie created called, "In Mother's Word." All of these quotes
are taken directly out of emails that we have received - usually when
mothers register their babies online for the "I Was Born in Water"
list.

We are just a few days away from launching the Water Baby Parent
Survey link on our home page. That will take people out to a separate
survey to complete about their labor, birth and early post-partum for
their water babies. Our purpose is to gather as much information as
possible and turn it into usable statistics. We need stats on all
those wonderful waterbirths. The pediatricians, especially, are
increasing their vocal objections to waterbirth. There was an article
recently published in a journal, which is more of a trade magazine for
pediatrician offices, which advises pediatricians what they should
tell women when they ask about waterbirth. Basically, the story line
goes that it is not safe. We know better.

So, check out the site and follow the links and let us know what you
think.

We are waiting on the Survey until the Gentle Birth World Congress
site is finished. It is up, but there is still a lot of work to do on
that one. We are sooooo excited about the Gentle Birth World
Congress and Whole Baby Expo. We'll tell you lots more about that as
it becomes available.

Wishing you all the best,
Barbara

It looks great Barbara, nice work!
Any word on when the book you were working on will be coming out?
Will you be at CIMS in March?  I'd love to see you again!

Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers ~ strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.

I will be at CIMS in Atlanta in March.  My registration is paid.  I am waiting for a deal on the airfare.  I might have to hold my breath on that one!!  It will be great to see you.

There are two book projects in the works - The Complete Guide to Waterbirth
and Embracing the Miracle (all about birth - what else)

What has really been keeping me busy has been my purchasing the rights to distribute and market the Birth Pool in a Box from the Good Birth Company in the UK.  I flew over to Birmingham, England in November (on my way to Taiwan - if you can picture that) and absolutely fell in love with the entire Good Birth Team.  I even attended a childbirth class in the hospital taught by Amy Maclean - one of the owner's of the Good Birth Company.  This inflatable pool is the ONLY one designed for birth that meets my rigorous standards.  So, I have invested in the company and purchased the rights to sell in US, Canada and Mexico - and a few hundred other countries.  Currently, I can only establish wholesale accounts in the three North American counties.  But, you know us, we want to take over the world with waterbirth.

The pools are inexpensive, very sturdy, come with form fitting disposable liners and are very comfortable.
I received a shipment of them for a trial basis and we have been giving them to moms for free to try.  They pay for the shipping to and from and then give us their honest opinion about how they felt in it.  The plastic material is eco-friendly (that was one of my BIG requirements), there are handles on the top and sides, there is a blow up seat built in, and the floor inflates separately AND it is big enough, wide enough and deep enough to qualify for a  deluxe birthing pool.

We'll be putting the up on our website in a few weeks, after we get all the photos back from our in-studio photo shoot.  I am sooo excited about this option for women.

Working out all those details and attending a birth with one of the pools did keep me busy.  So, my manuscript suffered, but look what the world has gained.

I'll have a brochure on them at the CIMS meeting - along with a brochure about our Gentle Birth World Congress in September.

Hope more people can come for the discussions at CIMS in Atlanta.

Blessings,
Barbara
