September 17, 2012 WaterAid Meeting Minutes

v  Dr. Jimmy Kimmel was our Guest Speaker for this week.

v  WaterAid Dues (per semester):

Ø  $5.00 dues

Ø  Musts attend ONE meeting and TWO volunteer activities

Up coming volunteer opportunities


Ø  Sept 29- TX State GreenFest

§  LBJ Mall

§  10 am – 2 pm

§  We are going to try to have a photo booth with our toilet (Social Media Campaign)


* We need people there to work the booth (10am-2pm)* Email (nh1...@txstate.edu) if you can come out*


Ø  Oct 27- Rain Water Revival

§  Boerne, TX

§  Water Festival that includes auctions and speakers and vedors

§  We will ask for volunteers Oct 26 & 27 for this event


This is a complete list from the event. If something interest you please let me know

OCT 26th

·         this can be anytime during the day- need 3-4 people to mark out the booth spaces= I just need to know how many so that I can be there

OCT 27th

·         Raindrop Stop (6)- need 1 "head person" from 10:30-1 and 1:30 from 1:30-4:30 (the extra 30 minutes on each end is for set up and clean up.) The Raindrop Stop is our Children's area-they'll have rainwater painting and some educational projects, such as "aquifer in a cup", etc. They each need 2 helpers from 11-1:30 and 1:30-4.

Vendor Load In & Set up assistance (6)  7am til 10am


·         Speaker/Stage Wranglers (4 -- 2 per each stage) (this is all day gig, from around 9:45-3.These folks meet the speakers in the "green room" and make sure they're in place and all set up (so they need to know how to set up computer/LED projector. Speakers are supposed to bring programs on a memory stick, so it "should" be a simple matter of plugging in their memory stick.:)

Clean Up – (4) (mostly just making sure the grounds outside are clean, the convention center do the major clean up inside.

Ø  Sept 20- Geography Picnic @ 5:00 pm at Sewell ( GO TO THIS! IT IS AWESOME.)

Ø  Sept 22- Hyacinth Removal with the City of San Marcos

§  9 am- Noon

§  Location at Aquarena Center

§  Look for email to stay posted on this event

Ø  Sept 23- River Clean up at San Marcos River Retreat

§  Contact Derrick Lee for more information (214) 226-0409 (he is getting this group together)

§  9:30 am

§  If you have any snorkeling gear or abled hands go out and help out with this part of the river

Ø  Oct 12- Social Ride/Movie Screening

§  For social ride- wear blue costume/attire (costume contest maybe?)

§  Going to have spoke cards

§  Location for beginning of ride is at Rio Vista?????????

§  We will end at a House and there we will screen a movie

Ø  Nov 17- Harvest Tide

§  Location at Wake the Dead

§  NEED Art Donations à so ask around for any type of art that can be donated for our silent auction

§  Multiple Bands are performing (line up is still being determined)

§  Raffle Prizes will be given away

·         If you know of any company that would be willing to donate anything to help their business (shirts, gift cards, materials etc.) let us know!

§  This event will also need volunteers so keep your eyes open for emails and sign-up sheets
