Hidey Ho neighbor,
I hope that your day and week is going well!
A little recap -
Water Hyacinth Removal was a huge success and it was a beautiful day so thank you to those of you who came out!
We made the San Marcos River Foundation Email!
"Water Aid invited me to attend their meeting on campus to speak about our hyacinth/invasives volunteer opportunities and the coming river cleanup this weekend. They gave a check for $500 to SMRF and a great bumper sticker that says Water=Life. Look for these stickers at their booth on Earth Day in April. We appreciate their support so much; they have worked hard for several years to raise these funds during their annual Walk for Water and other events. They, and the ECO Club in the Geography Department, have been great volunteers for our work in the river for many years, for both river cleanups and invasives removal."
Here are a few things in the upcoming week
City River Clean Up - March 2nd Crop Walk
The river cleanup is this coming Saturday, March 2, . Sign up at 9 to 9:30 at the Lions Tube Rental area in City Park. There will be coffee and breakfast tacos, and sign up sheets that will help you decide where you are needed. Dress warmly in layers, long sleeves and long pants and protective shoes are best, like tennis shoes that tie on, with socks. There are gloves at the sign up, but please return them back to the SMRF. It is critical to cover your skin with these protective clothes to avoid poison ivy, which does not have leaves this time of year but could still touch you. Also, you can be dealing with trash that can be sharp, and wedged among brush and thorny brambles.
WaterAid Officers will be there at check-in to document service hours.
