Tissot Visodate Black Dial

This is my first automatic watch and I must say I absolutely enjoy it! Who doesn't like seeing gears move and watch the sweeping of the seconds hand. Luckily I ordered the watch through Amazon and not a third party dealer (Amazon offers a 2yr warranty with watches as opposed to the manufacturers warranty). Amazon was great, the item arrived on time (I think a little earlier too!) and came boxed well.
First, for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of owning an automatic, this is a good tip I found online, ([...])
1. Set the time to 6:00**
2. Set day and/or date to the PREVIOUS day. So if today is Tuesday the 1st, set it to Monday the 31st.
3. Advance the time by winding until the day/date changes over. This will ensure your watch changes day/date at midnight and not lunch!
4. Keep advancing until the appropriate time is reached.
5. Bask in the beauty of an automatic!
**This is extremely important with Day/Date automatics. Apparently changing the day/date between 9pm-3am (21:00-03:00 for you 24hr folks out there) MAY DAMAGE your day/date mechanism. I'm not sure if all automatics are like that, but it's better to be safe then have to pay to get your brand new watch fixed :)
Now onto the watch. The watch face is just gorgeous, but like a previous reviewer mentioned, the domed sapphire crystal does have A LOT of glare. This isn't a deal breaker for me since the hour hand, seconds hand, and hour markers are well polished and really stand out against the black face even with the glare. It's also neat that they bent the seconds hand to help with the distortion from the domed crystal. It's a really nice touch IMO. The back of the watch is just as beautiful with a sapphire crystal so you can see all the little gears and spring mechanisms.
When I first got the watch it was gaining about 14 seconds/day. A month of daily wear later, it's now gaining about 5 seconds/day (which it hopefully stays at).
There are also two modes of display for the day: one where it displays the the day (SUN, MON, TUES...) and the other where a number and day are displayed (7SUN, 1MON, 2TUES...)
It's also nice to see the red SUN :) when it rolls around. Maybe it's nice and red to warn the wearer the weekend is ending and MON is approaching :(
Again I can't stress the beauty and simplicity of this watch! But, the watch band feels a little cheap and plastic-ky. It took a week or two for it to break in and I guess that's with most leather straps. The double clasp mechanism is nice and makes it easier/faster to put on and take off (well for me it is).
So to summarize the Tissot Visodate... It's a beautiful and functional watch with the day/date. It's also a steal at the price Amazon is offering! If the watch band is keeping you from buying the watch, buy the watch and change the band! You'd be hard pressed to find such a well crafted automatic under the $500 mark.
*I've also bumped my watch into the car door, elevator, concrete pillar in the garage and haven't had a scratch on the sapphire crystal (yes I can be very clumsy)!

Tissot Visoidate Black Dial Watch

Beautiful watch if you like retro. Movement works very well. Clasp does not leave marks on my wrist like some others and is easy to put on and take off once you size the clasp in the right hole. Durable and well made. The back is an exhibition back, (see thru) so you can see the anvil weight move to wind it. The saphire crystal is slightly raised like a bubble, but is durable, and not a piece of crap like the acrylic Swatches. Tissot is a great Swiss Movement watch if you want to spend under $500 (they do have models over $500)and want something that will last.

Stylish, accurate
By S.E.
I purchased this watch to be my default watch for work. I wear it most days, and I certainly enjoy how versatile it is with basically any set of dress clothes. The one thing I would encourage you to keep in mind that I neglected is the thickness of the watch. With some of my dress shirts, the watch is the *slightest* bit too thick and can get caught on my cuffs.
It's also an automatic watch, which means it remains wound either through the natural course of use, or from manually turning the crown. What I found online boasted 48 hours before needing to be wound. I certainly don't think that's accurate (I think it's probably somewhere closer to 24-30 hours), but in any event, if you want to avoid the hassle of your watch dying and having to reset the time, you must monitor the watch's wind-up at times.
