Linux inotify following symlinks

Greetings,
Is there a reason why watchdog do not follow symlinks on Linux when using inotify ?
Any chances this will be an option like recursive in future releases:
observer = Observer()
observer.schedule(event_handler, path, recursive=True, followlinks=True)
?
