Iattended this event several years ago. It was very powerful and I loved it. If it speaks to you, I hope you can go.
It traces the history of Western Mass voices in the creation of MayDay and organizing workers.

Voices of Working People’s History

Saturday, May 2, 2026

in the De La Luz Soundstage, 92 Race Street, Holyoke

Reserve your seat(s) here. Flyer is here.

A free program of dramatic readings and lots of songs, with emphasis on Western Mass. voices, telling the origin story of May Day as International Workers’ Day in Chicago with an inspiring introduction to US labor history up to present-day voices of workers rising up ~ inspired by Howard Zinn.

plus Dinner … Teach-In … Song Circle!

For Voices of Working Peoples History 2026, the Voices team, led by Co-Directors Trenda Loftin and Mel Redwin, is pulling together a powerful evening of offerings.

5:00PM:  Doors Open & Dinner begins

(food and beverages available for purchase)

5:30-6:30PM:  Teach-In 7:00PM:  Voices Performance & Song Circle

There’s no charge.  Tax deductible donations to cover costs are accepted here and by check to Warren J. Plaut Charitable Trust, 25 High St, Granby MA 01033, memo: Voices.  Donations above costs are given to the Carlos Vega Fund for Social Justice.  Please reply with any questions.

If you or your organization donate any amount to help cover our costs and would like to be listed as a Sponsor in the publicity and Program, click here.

Please share this announcement.

And there are ways to volunteer to make the evening a success:

5:30-6:30PM: Teach-In, especially leaning towards labor organizing and worker activism as part of larger anti-fascism movement work. We seek experienced leaders to design and facilitate this Teach-In.

After Voices: Song Circle, inspired by the long history of labor songs and civil rights music, the current Singing Resistance events, as well as the importance of healing and prayer song circles in our culture, we’d like participants to have the opportunity to sing as a community after the performance. We seek Song Circle co-facilitators to design and lead this portion of the evening.

Community members can come and go based on their preference, as each portion of the evening is optional.

Will you join us in bringing our vision to fruition?

  • Lead a table in conversation?

  • Share a specific organizing skill related to labor and worker activism?

  • Table for your group making information available to attendees?

  • Spread the word about the event?

  • Share another idea?

Please let Mel and Trenda know how you’d like to participate in this evening full of connection and collaboration. Email voicesofwor...@gmail.com

In Solidarity,

Jon
