Appleperiodically seeds beta versions of its operating systems to developers, beta testers and IT professionals. They may be delivered as IPSWs, as OTA updates, or both. To download and use this software legally, you need to create a free developer account using your Apple ID on
developer.apple.com. Before June 5, 2023, beta developer firmwares were only allowed to be installed by members of the Apple Developer Program. Public betas are also offered for users who do not want to install the developer betas. They are offered to those who are enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program, which (just like the developer betas) is free for anyone with a valid Apple ID. IT professionals also have access to AppleSeed for IT beta software, but to access them, they need to sign in using an Apple ID that has access to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager. The download links provided on the following pages link directly to Apple's servers. Some betas were removed from the servers but download links are kept for archival purposes.
I did exactly that. After downloading Xcode (3.41GB) I downloaded the new iOS 17 beta which was 7.47 GB. After installing the new Xcode, it us prompting me to download again the iOS simulator which I had already downloaded. But when prompted from Xcode the download is also very sluggish and I don't want to wait since I have the simulator DMG in my downloads folder.
I tried manually to put the content of the .DMG file into the library in Xcode as described by some older posts, like in "Cashes/com.apple.dt.Xcode/Downloads/"but this did not work. Restarting Xcode I had the same prompt asking me to redownload the simulator.
If you move the Xcode-beta application to the Application folder, you can use Finder to go to /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles.
With the introduction of the new Apple Silicon M1 Mac, you can now reinstall macOS with Apple Configurator 2 and IPSW files just like iOS! This page is a database of all macOS IPSW Files. The macOS ISPW firmware files database will be updated when new updates are released.
I am going to attempt to restore (for purposes of sale) my Mac mini (8GB) to Big Sur, recovery partition and elsewhere. I have a 16GB mini on the way, as of yet I have found no instructional on how to use one M1 mini to restore another, so when it comes time to plug the old mini in, is it simply a case of press/hold the power button while inserting the power cable until my iPad* says DFU, then drag/drop the IPSW into that square?
Boot 8GB into DFU mode.
Start AC2 on 16GB and Download IPSW (wr just let apple configurator 2 download it)
Click the Restore Button. This will erase the drive and reinstall macOS Big Sur. Leave it at the setup assistant for the new user.
Correct, each IPSW for big sur is compatible for all Macs in most situation. Over time you will find that certain old versions will not work. For example the new 2021 iMac came with 11.3. You will not be able to use the 11.2.3 and lower IPSW to restore.
Hi,
thank you for all the informations. I just need to downgrade from BigSur to HighSierra and I ended up with this Problem of restore/reviving the mac mini. Do you have IPSW files for HighSierra or does that make any sense?
Thank you
So will the IPSW just update (restore) my MacOS, retaining existing installed applications, etc, or will it completely erase and set up as a new machine again if I run it? Confused, was expecting an M1 beta update, not an IPSW.
Can you start in the recovery mode? Press and hold the power button on your Mac until you see the startup option page and then select Options.
There you should format the whole ssd and disable secure Boot:

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your insights on how to get around this issue!
Can you please tell me how the IPSW downloadable files that you have listed here are safe, unaltered and free from any nasties?
How can I know for sure that your Big Sur IPSW 11.0.1 20B29 restore file is legitimate and directly from Apple?
Kind Regards,
Ryan.

This package enables UNIX-style development via Terminal by installing command line developer tools, as well as macOS SDK frameworks and headers. Many useful tools are included, such as the Apple LLVM compiler, linker, and Make. If you use Xcode, these tools are also embedded within the Xcode IDE.

Apple announced its upcoming iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 software on June 10 during its keynote address at WWDC24. The updates are packed with new features like Apple Intelligence and big changes for Home Screen, Control Center, Messages, Siri, Mail, and much more. To try these new features before everyone else, you must install the beta on your iPhone or iPad.
The iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Betas have been available since June 10 for registered developers. At that time, Apple announced it would release the iOS and iPadOS 18 Betas to users of the Apple Beta Software Program sometime in July, and just as we predicted based on the time between developer and public betas of iOS and iPadOS 17, that happened on July 15. So, anyone with an iPhone and Apple account can now sign up and install the iOS or iPadOS 18 Beta, though anyone could have created a free Apple Developer account to skip the wait for the public version.
Beta software isn't perfect, so it's always a good idea to back up your iOS or iPadOS software before installing a beta build. That way, you can downgrade to a public build if needed. Backups on iCloud are encrypted and can be up to 12 TB (or 14 TB with Apple One Premier). Backups on a computer aren't encrypted by default and are only limited by the remaining space on your local drive.
To create a backup on iCloud, connect your iPhone or iPad to Wi-Fi, go to Settings [Name] iCloud iCloud Backup Back Up Now. If you choose to back up with your Mac, you should archive the backup so that future beta backups won't overwrite it. To back up with your Mac:
A backup on your Mac will also omit content synced from your computer, such as imported MP3s or CDs, videos, books, and photos. To back up Activity, Health, and Keychain data on your Mac, you'll need to select the encrypted backup option.
As a beta tester, you can provide feedback to Apple about any software issues you experience, which will help get the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 stable updates as bug-free as possible. You can give feedback via the Feedback Assistant app on your iPhone. The app is usually hidden on stable iOS and iPadOS software but visible when on a beta. If you want to attach a sysdiagnose report with your feedback, to help Apple determine what led up to the issue, use the volume buttons shortcut.

The iOS 18 Beta is available on the following iPhone models, which are the same as those that work with iOS 17. So, if your iPhone runs iOS 17, it can run iOS 18. The same cannot be said for iPads and iPadOS 18. The iPadOS 18 Beta supports iPads that work with iPadOS 17 except for the iPad (6th generation), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation), and iPad Pro 10.5-inch.
Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new features for Podcasts, News, Books, and TV, as well as important security improvements and fresh wallpapers. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.5 update.
So I got my iPhone 4S UDID registered for free, and was able to get iOS 6, then when the golden master came out I couldn't get it since I don't have a developer account, and iOS 6 beta 4 expired today and my phone is completely unuseable, and iTunes won't let me back it up. I know I can restore it, but I'd rather not lose all my texts, they're very important to me.
I'm a developer, but since I didn't extend my membership, I'm basically same as any regular user. I think you can just create a developer account (even though you don't plan to develop apps). It's free. And then go to iOS Developer Center and download proper iOS 6 from there.
