Subject: UNOCHA 2012 Monsoon Update No. 7
To:
Dear All, Please find attached the Monsoon Update No. 7. Highlights are as follows:
- The current monsoon spell has contributed to improved water storage and availability for the ‘kharif’ planting season.
- Provincial Disaster Management Authorities have responded to all localized flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa PAK, Balochistan and Punjab.
- Monsoon rains have provided some relief to the drought situation prevailing in lower Sindh. The Provincial Relief Minister has deployed transitional camps to support populations who have temporarily moved out of Tharparkar District.
- The mild to moderate drought conditions in coastal and southwestern regions of Balochistan perseveres and there are unconfirmed reports of population movement occurring from Noshki District to other parts of the Province.
- Another monsoon rain bearing system is anticipated to enter the northern parts of the country from 3 September onwards.
Regards
