Hi

I Know I should have stopped using this washer and repaired it as the
banging had gotten progressively worse and I know the bearings are
gone/Spider is OK, but now I see plastic shavings inside drum after
wash - does this mean that the outer tub assembly at the place where
the bearings seat is now chewed up and new bearings will not help - in
other words I now need Outer Tub Assembly? :(

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Greg

I have the same "symptoms." Small bits of plastic got caught up in
some of the clothes inside the drum. The washing machine (Frigidaire)
started making a banging noise on the spin cycle... pretty abruptly,
though... didn't start softly then get worse over time. Think I need
an Outer Tub assembly as well?

I not sure, what to tell you other then you need to tear into it a
see. If it off enough were you are getting shavings I think there
might be more to the problem.

Same thing happened to me, and I let it go for too long also.

As the bearings failed, the basket started to "sag", and then the
wheel that
the belt turns also started rubbing on the basket. Eventually the
wheel
cut into the back of the basket a bit. ( was able to patch that )

My plastic shavings came from the front of the basket area - but after
I cleaned it up the plastic pieces stopped forming and all seemed to
be ok.

Unfortunately for me, when my bearings had failed, and we ran it
for longer, the broken bearings wore into the shaft, and we couldn't
get a new shaft without buying a whole shaft/spider/basket.

Lucky for me, about the time I got it all back together, my wife
decided
she wanted a top loader and we transitioned away from our front
loader.

Well, let's just say this was a "learning experience" for me.
I was glad to find the videos online - and replace the bearings.
Next time - we will stop using the washer at the first sound of
abnormal noise.

OK I am taking apart now! By the way, I was misspoke when I said the
Spider Arm was OK as I was mistaking Rear Wheel/ Belt Pulley and now I
see that the broken Spider Arm is attached to Stainless Steel Tub/
Basket - which of course, I need to purchase together as a unit "And
so it goes...
Thank you Frigidaire!

Thank you for your time!

Hi, thank you for replying! It was good to get your spin on this. I
read of many unhappy folks out there. And saw a great video titled
Frigidaire Sucks - nice production values! See Here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoIMCVi1m9k I see that on other
forums people have mentioned that there are screws projecting out of
stainless steel inner tub/basket and when the spider arm breaks and or
bearings fail, the screws begins to scrape against the inner wall of
outer plastic tub assembly - as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwpKP_9_fAA

Greg
