Rust on GE Front Load Model #WCVH6800J0MS

Good afternoon. I received my Washer Repair Kit for my GE Front Load Washing Machine Model # WCVH6800J0MS & I'm changing out the bearing this weekend but while I'm in there I noticed 1 more issue...I guess b/c the Rubber Seal was degenerating b/c the Basket was off & rubbing against it, that must have let some water leak b/c now there are several rusted areas. What do I need to repair that? I was going to try to sand it down some but I wasn’t sure if that was right.  (Please see attached pics)

I would really appreciate any help that you can give me in this.
