Hi,

I have a Maytag MHWE200XW00 and have the entire machine pulled apart right now. I have received my new bearings and seal from Hometask.

However, I can't remove the metal inner tub from the plastic outer tub. In the video, Jarrod easily pulls it off, but mine will not budge at all. Without being able to pull these apart, I can't get to the bearings and seal. There is no screw or spring or anything I can see that will allow the two to be separated.

Help! What am I missing?

Paul-
This is a common problem.  Even in the videos, I may have knocked it apart before shooting that part of the video.  In some of them, I do show how to knock them apart but not in all.  I try to keep the videos as short as possible.

Anyway, here is what you do.

1) Flip the tub so the shaft is sticking straight up.
2) Support the plastic tub on the floor so that the metal basket has some space to drop down (make sure to support the tub all the way around or as much as possible as it will create less bounce and help prevent breaking the tub)
3) Get a big hammer or sledge and a block of wood
4) Hold the wood over the shaft where it sticks out of the tub and pound as needed to break it loose.  If necessary, have someone else hold a longer piece of wood so you can really give it a whack.

Thanks, Jerrod! I did what you said and got it! It took several hard blows, as you said it would.

Now for the bearing replacement... :)

Jarrod,

I finally got the old bearings out and have replaced the bearings. However, in putting in the seal, it looks different than the old one. It fits the diameter, but it's a lot "thinner" (or shorter). Before I put it all back together to see if it works, I thought I'd ask if that's normal.

Can you advise?

Paul,
Yes, the seals are proprietary so ours do look a bit different.

Thanks, Jarrod. I must have damaged the large bolt that holds the belt wheel on the tub when I was trying to knock it off. Therefore, I had trouble getting the nut back on. I ended up having to cross-thread it and forced it on. Hopefully that works long term!

I got everything put back together. It's working well so far about 10 loads in!

Thanks for all your help.

Paul
