Plastic pieces under front door

I was thrilled to find this company!  After seeing the $350 part on the Sears website, I thought I had a hard decision to make - not so!  I ordered my bearing and seal kit last night.

As I've seen in a few repair videos, I notice that our washer has some little plastic pieces under the front door seal.  This is from the washer having been run with a failed bearing (which we won't do again!).  Is there anything that needs to be done to the degraded white plastic by the front door?

I've got a Kenmore Kenmore Elite QuietPak2 HE3; Model: 110.45862 400.

Also, looking forward to the task of knocking out the bearings, I need to obtain a piece of pipe or something wide enough.  I've got a wide screwdriver but that doesn't seem ideal.  Any recommendations on what diameter I'm shooting for with a piece of pipe (or width of a spike or whatever?)

Thanks!

Cole,
I'm glad you found my repair kits.  They have helped many people in your situation.

For the wear on the plastic, it is usually not enough of a problem to affect the future operation of it.  If the rubber boot is not damaged then it should be fine.  Feel free to send photos if you would like.

As for removing the bearings, do not spend any money on it.  Anything long and strong will do it.  I like to use about a 1" pipe and move from side to side as you do.  I beat on it with aggression and they usually pop right out.  When I take the outer bearing out, I set the tub up on a milk crate so it has space to fall into.

Thanks,
Jerrod

I am about to order the bearing/seal kit for a Kenmore 110.45862400. I've disassembled enough to confirm the bearings are toast.

Much like Cole mentioned, the white plastic that connects the tub to the front load door have broken down quite a bit. The seal is still good (no leaks). But we will continue to get bits of plastic in our laundry until it is addressed. I can break off bits with my fingers.  Is this a replaceable part? What is it called?
