Hi Ina and the group,

Thanks for your introduction and willingness to take on leading this group.

In terms of your questions.

1. Creating a small 2-4 page reference note - we'd have to be clear on the audience and it looks as though it would be most aimed at partner organisations who's like a brief introduction to the topic. We've produced a 2-sider on integrating climate change adaptation into water policy and plan, but I could see the value of more of an overview of the key issues.

2. Meetings this year - Stockholm would be good again. I'm not sure if there will be others where we will all be?

3. WSSCC's Global Forum for Sanitation and Hygiene - this sounds interesting and I'd be keen to do a side event on our guide on how to integrate climate change adaptation into water policies. Hopefully by then we'd have some country examples to share. If others are working on adaptation, perhaps we could do it jointly?

Ina - please do send me further details on the WSSCC Global Forum when you have them.

Thanks,

    Dear Stef, dear all

Yes, thanks for introducing me and handing over! WSSCC has been supporting several technical Working Groups, such as the Climate Change WG which was managed in the last years by IRC. Thank you for your effort and good work Stef!

Just a small introduction: I work since 1 year for the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council as technical officer in the Networking and Knowledge Management Department alongside Carolien van der Voorden and Archana Patkar. I have been working a lot on biogas sanitation in China, approaching the climate change theme from the side of renewable energy / CDM.

We do hope you like the postcards! The main intention of the cards is to create broader awareness of the key Climate Change issues within our sector. There is a lot of acknowledgement, but hardly any advocacy around it. So as Stef said, please feel free to download them from the website (also soon on ours) or write to IRC and disseminate them widely. If they become very popular, we might do a reprint.

I have made a small change in the management of the mailing list: now also members can post and reply on messages directly, without going through approval of the List-manager. We hope with this the group interaction will become much more flexible and frequent. For your interest: the mailing list has currently 41 members.
IRC is still hosting the internet -site for the group, but we are going create a similar space on our new WSSCC site.

Concerning the activities of our group for 2011, with the objectives to be a platform for knowledge exchange and advocacy, I hereby motivate you to continue sharing

    - Relevant resources and publications

    - Experiences and current work around Climate change and WASH, also posting questions and comments

    - Dates of relevant events and trainings

Then I would be interested to get your ideas around the following, it is also to create a bit more active working group :

    1. Creating a small 2-4 page reference note, with some key facts and resources on the topic (similar like example for HIV/ IADS and WASH http://www.wsscc.org/sites/default/files/publications/WSSCC_Reference_Note_HIV_AIDS_2009.pdf
Could you make use of this reference note?

    2. Last year the WG held a meeting during World Water Week in Stockholm. Please let me know, if there is a need for meeting later this year, opportunistic with other events or a singular meeting?

    3. As you might have heard it, WSSCC will hold a Global Forum for Sanitation and Hygiene, in Mumbai from 09-14 October this year. We are expecting 400-600 practicioners, and are currently in the process to shape the content. I would like to organize a meeting or rather a workshop for the participants around Climate change and WASH, and would like to engage members of the Working Group to partner on this. Please indicate to me if you have already some ideas or contributions for this in mind.

So, please now, don't hesitate to share everything around climate change within our group!

    Best greetings

Subject: Advocacy postcards and change of secretariat

    Dear all,
As discussed during the last meeting of the working group on WASH and Climate Change, we have developed a series of postcards with advocacy messages around WASH and CC. These are available online at http://www.irc.nl/content/view/full/61788. In case you would like to have a couple of hard-copies of these postcards as well, for you to use at conferences, events or other occasions where these could be used, please let us know and we will send you a set. Please copy in my colleague Angelica de Jesus.

Furthermore, I am glad to inform you that from the 1st of January Ina Jurga of the WSSCC will take over from me the secretariat of the working group, as also proposed during the meeting in September. I wish her all the best in this new role.

    Best regards,

    Stef Smits
