Reportedly, there is strong demand for Special-Ed teachers in
Washington state, but decreasing supply. Special-Ed teachers can make
more money and avoid more stress through resignation and working in other
fields. With the need high, the question of how to attract and keep
Special-Ed teachers looming large, what's the solution?

Seattles charm was destroyed when the King Dome was built and First Ave
became
an urban renewal project.

What we have now is just another over crowded city with lousy roads.
There's a game today and I-90 is a parking lot out East past I-405.
Show us the charm in that...

This is the usual desperate list. Frangos? Pike Place Market? The
SYMPHONY???

Give us a break, Walter. Seattle is an ugly, philistine, utterly
charmless city. Only one item on your list has any credibility and
that, of course, is Dick's.

Traveling as much as you claim to do, it's more convenient than, say, St.

I don't understand. St. Louis is TWA's hub, has fair cab service,
downtown hotels, etc. It's a shithole city, without a doubt, but
convenient enough.

Seattle is fine for my purpose, except for the traffic. I rented an
apt. there for years for business reasons. But it certainly offers
nothing that would make me want to live there.

You must feel the same way, because you told me the other day that you
are part of the foothills eyesore.

Ah Wally and Smitty ...let me guess - Compassionate Conservatives, huh? You
filthy blackhearted hypocrites need to be dragged off to a nice tidy fascist
country, and put to work sucking pigs snouts till their heads cave in.

My 4 year old son has Autism. There are no WA state services for him
(correction - there are a few, but they have no funding and we have been
#400 on the waiting list for over a year now), and the local school
districts Special Ed programs are overwhelmed, and shrinking. Teachers are
leaving at a record rate with no one to replace them. This is a real issue,
and your most cerebral response is to make butt jokes. OK - I'm not
suprised.

Money - let me talk your sick self-interest-only ReButtlickan language for a
second. In the case of Autism, and also in most other developmental
disabilities, it has been proven over and over again that *early
intervention* is the best possible treatment. Children that recieve
treatment early in development stand the best chance of becoming
"mainstreamed" into standard education, and society. If not then they have
a much greater chance of ending up in adult institutions for the rest of
thier lives. A dollar spent on Early Education saves 10 in Adult Care. But
I'm sure you will shout this down in your usual dittohead fashion - because
nothing - I mean NOTHING IS MORE REPUBLICAN THAN MORTGAGING THE FUTURE TO
MAKE A BUCK NOW. !!!!

If I don't get adequate education from the school district, I'll sue -
win - and take more of your money to send him to an expensive private
institution. Are you starting to listen now Smitty and yer shitty friends?
M-O-N-E-Y. You should care a hell of a lot more about this issue because
it's gonna COST you.

The fact is, this is way beyond a local, or State issue. This is a Federal
issue, and just as soon as we shoo the chimp out, and clean up the poop hes
been throwing around the cage we will do something about it. Providing care
for developmentaly challenged children is one of the things that a society
does for it's citizens. Autism in particular is a growing concern. Cases
have grown by 900% since 1992 - it is becoming an epidemic. In case you
care:

If using ad hominem and guessing who is what had something to do with
assessing as well as solving the problems caused by the lack of
Special-Ed teachers, HooHa's comments here, as they pertain to
guessing and ad hominem, might be worthy of some response other than
to indicate they are not productive. Special-Ed teachers aren't
leaving because of money issues alone; it's the overarching
environment in which they must work. However, if money was the be-all
and end-all cure for the problem, where does HooHa suggest the money
come from, and at whose or what expense? If the problem entails more
than money issues, what then?

You actually have a point there. A former girlfriend was a special ed
teacher, and she was very frustrated that her classes contained many severe
discipline cases. Nobody else wanted to deal with these students, so they
were dumped in Special Ed.

The real tragedy is that the Dems are using his child, and himself, as
political pawns to make political points. Special ed should be a funded
priority - ignoring it is just selective budgeting, just like threatening to
cut street officers when you are bloated with desk cops....

In reply to Roy Jose Lorr:

[-] The mountain is out most days in the late Spring and through much of
the Summer and even on occasion in the Fall and Winter. The same
answer applies to watching a sunset from Sunset Hill Park. But
Roy Jose Lorr already knew this, right?

[-] Determining good places to eat is a subjective process. Top picks
from this quarter would be as follows, but most would not impress
gastronomes:

+-------------------------+ Copper Sky
|Other than Copper Sky and| Space Needle
|the Space Needle, these | Spaghetti Factory
|are relatively cheap | Ivar's on Lake Union
|places to eat -- espec- +----->> Claim Jumper

|coupon. The more expen- | Snappy Dragon
|sive good places simply | The Ranch (English translation)
|are out of reach. | Pancake Haus
+-------------------------+ Red Robin
Bento (off-peak)
Seattle Crab Company
Teryaki Plus
Little Conie (in Summer and off-peak)
Dick's (for ice cream or when "grease"
is the word)

[-] With the exception of some roadside produce stands -- operations that
can never be trusted to exist from year to year -- Pike Place Market
is the best place in town to buy good produce. The trip downtown is
admittedly problematic. The market is more that a tourist trap. But Roy
Jose Lorr already knew that, right?

[-] Those who are not familiar with Blake Island should look it up and go
there for some of the best fish eats around Seattle. Don't forget to
save some cornbread for the bones that get stuck in the throat, and
sample some of that sweet clam nectar. Of course, there's a bit
of Indian culture to see. But Roy Jose Lorr has already been there,
right?

[-] Can anyone have lived in Seattle for more than a year and not know
about Sea Fair as well as the Torchlight Parade? For whom one carries a
torch, by the way, is a..... PRIVATE matter....... But no one can
blame Roy Jose Lorr for trying, right?

[-] The Mariners are losers? Says who????

[-] Hubris? Who's Hubris?? Roy Jose Lorr knew him well? ...

[-] What constitutes "simpler that simple?" Does anyone here REALLY want
to know?
