2014 Event Update
MotherLode Volleyball Classic
Just a few things regarding this year’s MotherLode Volleyball Classic:
First off, if you haven’t gotten your entry in, as of yet, you’d better get on it J This is shaping up to be one of the finest MotherLode tourneys in this decade. There’s plenty of room in most divisions. And, the MotherLode Masters National Championships is gaining a lot of traction.
We’d like to welcome Coldwell Banker Mason & Morse back as Presenting Sponsor, this year, guaranteeing the prize money in the Open Divisions. As well, Mezzaluna Ristorante, El Rincon (formerly, The Cantina), Finnbar’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, and New York Pizza are “in” as major restaurant contributors, once again. And, Jones Trading Company and DiG Magazine are making the MotherLode Masters possible.
Wilson is the official beach volleyball of The ‘Lode; as they have been for many years. And, of course, Paul Mitchell hair care products and Park ‘n Sun Sports are still with us after all these years.
There will be a cocktail party for all of the Masters and Seniors players (and, anyone else who may be in Town at that time) on Thursday nite, August 28th, at the Aspen Square Conference room and patio/pool area as well as the official Player’s Party on Sunday nite, August 31st at the 39 Degrees at the Sky Hotel.
Grassroots volleyball has been growing at an unprecedented rate in the last few years and we at the MotherLode Volleyball Classic are happy to consider our Tourney the “Granddaddy” of ‘em all; this being our 42nd year of tournament play. We must be doing something right, eh?
Speaking of doing something right, the ASICS WSOBV (World Series of Beach Volleyball) begins this week with competitions for juniors, collegiate athletes, and 4-man and 6-man tournaments; all surrounding the FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam – one of two $1,000,000.00 prize payouts this year on the world tour: www.wsobv.com. It’s an exciting weekend and many of the pool play and elimination rounds of the Grand Slam will be televised on NBCS and Universal Sports. Of course, the prime time matches will be shown, live, on NBC on Saturday (4:30 pm, EST) and Sunday (3:30 pm, EST).
Also, wanted to give you a “heads-up” on The Net Live (www.blogtalkradio.com/the-net-live); the only live volleyball talk radio program in the Country. They have been on the air for 6 years; with over 200 interviews with people involved in all aspects of the sport of volleyball. You can catch up with past interviews by playing the audio box that pops up on their website; or, by going to YouTube to catch any of the past interviews and goings-on.
