2014 Event Update
King of the Mountain Open
MotherLode Volleyball Classic
Hi, All,
As you know, April 1st is not just the birthday of one of Colorado’s top beach players, Kris Bredehoff; but, it is, also, the Opening of Registration for this year’s 42nd Annual Vail King of the Mountain Open and the 42nd Annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic, in Aspen; two of Colorado’s iconic beach doubles volleyball Tournaments.
As is usual at this time of year, I want to give you an update on what is happening with each Tourney for 2014. So, please, if you are planning on playing in either of our Events, take the time to read about what’s new for this year:
Vail “King of the Mountain” Open
Father’s Day Weekend, June 13-15, 2014
Vail, Colorado
www.KingOfTheMountainVolleyball.com
FYI: the re-development of Ford Park is in its final stages; but, due to the re-sodding of the field that is following the construction of new bathrooms and concession area, we need to move play (for this year only) to the Eagle-Vail Community Fields; a huge, beautifully manicured set of soccer fields and softball field in the Eagle-Vail subdivision of Avon, Colorado – just minutes west of Vail. The primary divisions that will be affected are the Juniors and the Father/Son & Father/Daughter divisions. There may be some of the other divisions playing down there; so, be sure to find out where you may be playing and take a look at the map on our web site. The “Fields” are easy to get to and those who play on them may not want us to move them back to Ford Park in 2015
We will still use the Red Sandstone sand court as the outlying courts for Women’s Open division play; however, there will be a consistent shuttle running back-and-forth from the main courts at the Vail Athletic Field and Red Sandstone so that players can get to-and-from their respective matches easily; rather than having to sit at the court all day. This court is being utilized in order to give us the ability to accommodate more teams into both the Women’s Open and the Men’s Open.
There will be more prize money in the Open Divisions as well as more merchandise prizes for the amateur divisions.
The FREE Junior’s Beach Volleyball Clinic will be held at the Eagle-Vail Community Fields, from 10:30 a.m. (10 o’clock, check-in) until 2:30 p.m., and will be coached by beach professionals, as it has been in the past.
There are some great deals being given on lodging – you need to check-out our Preferred Lodging Representative, located on our web site (under “Stay”) to see which one works best for you. Remember that you musts state that you are “coming for the King of the Mountain Volleyball tournament” in order to receive the special pricing that they are offering.
There are quite a few Events going-on over Father’s Day Weekend, this year; and, although, they will help make the weekend even more exciting, it will put a premium on getting your reservations in early.
42nd Annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic
Labor Day Weekend, August 27-September 1, 2014
Aspen, Colorado

Oh! Yes! One of America’s favorite beach doubles pro-ams is gearing up to provide even more excitement at this year’s Event with more prize money in the Open divisions and more prizes for the amateur divisions. As well, DiG Magazine, Jones Trading Company, and many others are creating the new MotherLode Master National Championships, which will include divisional play for Men’s 60’s, 55’s, 50’s, 45’s, and Masters (37-over); as well as Women’s 45’s and Masters (35-over). There will be more prize money; but, no qualifiers. It will be open to “all-comers”. You will notice that the Men’s 60’s & 50’s compete on the same day (Wednesday); and, that the 55’s and 45’s will, also, play on the same day (Thursday). That is being done to be able to allow those who want, to play in different divisions: i.e. 60’s competitors could play in the 55’s as well; and, the 55’s could, also, play in the 50’s, if so desired. Women’s 45’s will be played on Wednesday. And, Women’s Master will be on Thursday. (No one will be allowed to play in two divisions on the same day ) Men’s Masters and Co-Ed Open will compete at the main championship courts on Friday.
Reverse Co-Ed is here to stay. And, will continue to be played on Friday; along with conventional Co-Ed divisions.
FYI: Wagner Park is being re-done (at least both areas do them at the same time, eh?); and, as such, Friday’s Co-Ed Division “A”, as well as Men’s and Women’s “A” divisions will be re-located (for this year only). Please look for updates on the web site – as well as in future e-mail updates – for where those divisions will be played.
That’s it. Hope that everyone had a good winter and that you are ready to “hit the beach” and “the grass” for a great summer of outdoor volleyball.
Looking forward to seeing you at one, or the other, or both of our Tournaments this year.
Sincerely,
Leon Fell
