An important thing to keep in mind when testing this is that some application have their own DNS cache. For example the Chrome browser: it doesn't make sense to lookup IP addresses on every page reload, if the IP of facebook.com was 173.252.110.27 a minute ago it should still be the same now, right? This makes it hard to test things, because it takes a couple of minutes for Chrome to expire its cache. Unless you know a method to expunge it.
This add-on does not prevent Facebook and its holding company Meta from mishandling the data it already has or permitted others to obtain about you. Meta/Facebook still has access to everything that you do while you are on facebook.com or in the Facebook app, including your Facebook comments, photo uploads, likes and any data you share with Facebook connected apps. Meta also has access to what you do on Messenger and Instagram, which the company also owns.
I have a secure link direction service I'm running (expiringlinks.co). If I change the headers in php to redirect my visitors, then facebook is able to show a preview of the website I'm redirecting to when users send links to one another via facebook. I wish to avoid this. Right now, I'm using an AJAX call to get the URL and javascript to redirect, but it's causing problems for users who don't use javascript.

These lines tell your computer that "www.facebook.com" is found at 127.0.0.1, which is your computer's local address (any "wrong" I.P. will suffice). Regardless of which browser you use, your computer will be looking in the "wrong" place for Facebook's servers, and the domain simply won't work.

Facebook collects data from two sources: first-party data (things you do on facebook.com) and third-party data (including data collected overly or covertly via the "Like" button on other websites, "Login with Facebook," Facebook Messenger chat widgets, and the Atlas advertising network that Facebook owns). Even when you do not consent to share your information within an app or service, your data may be collected and traded by third-party trackers and data brokers.
Although Privacy Badger blocks many ads in practice, it is more a privacy tool than an ad blocker. Privacy Badger encourages advertisers to treat users respectfully and anonymously rather than the industry status quo of online tracking. It does this by unblocking content from domains which respect our Do Not Track policy, which states that the participating site will not retain any information about users who have expressed that they do not want to be tracked.
