Hello, wargamers!

I'd like to know what this group would like to do moving forward.  Attendance and response has been sparse, but if there is interest in keeping the group alive, I'd like to do that.

I propose the following and would like feedback from members who are committed to actively participate.  By "actively participate," I mean make an effort to attend game days and invest some time in defining this group.  This could be every meeting or a few times per year.  This could mean simply responding to email questions or participating in group efforts like volunteering at conventions, etc.

My proposal for this group:

-Change from static 2nd Saturday meeting to scheduling in accordance with group interest

-Putting together game-specifc contact lists.  (For example: Maria, HIS, hex & counter, 2p CDG, etc.)  These lists would be used when we are scheduling for a game specific game day.

-Consider additional locations for game days.  I'm open to rotating between our home and a few other locations: Adventurer's Quarter, Whittier Community Center, other game stores, coffee shops, etc.  (I personally need to stick with locations that are appropriate for my adult foster care clients, who may have to attend on occasion due to certain time regulations.  Other homes are usually not conducive to a position experience.)

-Convention representation.  Let's face it, unless someone steps up to run a game, it's not going to run itself.  I'd like to see more wargames at local conventions.  We can certainly start with EverCon.

Let me know your thoughts to resurrect this group.

Thanks!
Veronica

When you live in the city, you are happier if you know that there are woods you can go to visit.

So yes, I am happy the group is alive. I am and will continue to watch events come and go, but I am always weighing whether or not I can make a game day work. I get a maximum of 6-8 a year and have to balance that with my TI3 addiction. :)

The group must go on. I am committed to getting a game on the table at EverCon, even if I can't attend the volunteer meetings in advance. Please reach out to me if there's slapping up or additional direction needed on my part.

All your ideas sound good, but if you move from a regular Saturday time slot, then there's a few risks: (1) days won't happen and (2) game days could overlap with other regularly scheduled events. Maybe every other month on the 2nd Sat?

Additional locations won't help me attend. Having more control over my time would, but that is beyond any skill which we here possess. Until then, I need to know there's a place to work toward because I want nothing more than to have my ass handed to me by y'all in any of the games you list above. :)

Good feedback.  Will wait on the rest of the group before addressing the points.

Thanks!

As one of those who rarely plays games but still subscribes to the group, I certainly like the idea of keeping at least a virtual version of the group going if it goes into hibernation. Scheduling when the interest arises seems like a good idea if the response has been weak. I also like the idea of creating game-specific contact lists and spreading the hosting duties around and into different pats of town. But as I said, I don't play games all that often so I'm hesitant to offer much input or commit myself to much of anything...

What Scott Davis said.  ;)

I just didn't want to get into the 'meta' of not responding to addressing the problem of not responding.   ...so I respond.

Do we have a BGG guild going?    Just something to keep the list sorta alive/advertised a bit if it goes dormant.

I would like to attend more often.  The last game was fun, in spite of some "distractions."  My schedule just hasn't permitted me to attend more often of late.  I too, like Seren, am
a TI3 addict, and must satiate that addiction.  I hope you keep it going, my lack of attendance notwithstanding.  Personally, I think your place is just fine, it is certainly convenient for me, as I live only about 3 miles from your house.  My only general recommendation would be knowing in advance what the group wants to play, but that is not a "show stopper" for me, I will play "whatever" even if I play it badly, I still have fun.  For what it's worth, January and February are always tough for game groups due to competition from the Con, and other events, and holidays, and other "whatnot."

I'd love to play 7-player AGoT!  I've got all of the PoD expansion stuff for the 2ndEd tBG.

That's my "2 cents."

I hate to ask so pointedly, but ...uhhh...  does anyone have any plans for freeing-up?   Also, am I unrealistic in thinking I'm going to get out of the house in a year or so...?

I ask because like, I was starting to get out and about a bit.  My son was sleeping regularly and behaving a little bit, which let us both leave---although with great caution. I didn't have a real solid gaming group established.  As such, on an off Saturday...well...  now I have a small baby.   I tried to talk the wife into A House Divided but she's more of a euro-gamer it seems with the family growths and whatnot.

The plan is in a year...hopefully...God willing...  I can get back to leaving the house recreationally on the weekends.

As for now, the kids sense weakness and attack when I leave.

Now, will I get to leave the house?   maybe...     but, when I do, I really hope I get to play real games.   "Oh yeah, we play anything" the euronerds say.  You break-out GMT and you hear, "So...hey...umm...  do we make an economy of death?"  "Did any of these wars take place in the Mediterranean between merchants?"

So, are we all terminally busy?   Am I going to be terminally busy and I don't know it?

I'll look into putting together a BGG Guild in the near future.  This will allow the group to organize games ad hoc and allow new "members" to find it.  I'll make one last post when that's complete.  Whoever wants to organize or host a game can reach each other that way.  I will continue to host games here when my schedule permits and I can round up needed players.

Thanks,
V

I have recruited a new member.  His name is Andrew Schmidt.  He enjoys playing GMT Games.

I am donating a new copy of "Havana" to the fund for Kelly Phipps.  I will bring it this Saturday 2/22/'14 for the auction.
