Fair Question.

Still something I work on, and plan to produce.
(sigh)
I had high hopes of getting a lot done over the holidays. I took time off from Paizo and everything. Instead, I got an infected abscess, went to the ER, and have been sick on and off ever since. I was in the midst of a cold when the question came in, which is why it's taken nearly a week to reply.

Which is particularly annoying, because I had JUST gotten over the rash of colds and flus that started in August.

I've been sick most of the past 8 months, and when I can work, it obviously has to be on things with standard deadlines for my employers, and the colleagues I have deals with that means their income can depend on my keeping up my end of things.

Which is one of the reasons I've never given a deadline for WotA, since I took it over from Super Genius Games.

So sorry, no real news.

No updates, sadly. I am working on putting together a team of people to help me move forward on this, but they're all still on other projects, so it's not something I can announce yet.

I AM curious if people following the project have any thoughts about it's original plan to be 100% Pathfinder compatible, in the light of Paizo's announcement of a stand-alone Starfinder science-fantasy RPG in August of 2017.

Starfinder looks very interesting and I am looking forward to it. for Warlords I want a game I can play in either genre. I have always been a fan of the post-apocalyptic and cyberpunk games where magic and tech go hand in hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Starfinder RPG seems that it will be integrated with the setting, whereas Pathfinder RPG is not.

If that is the case, I would be far less interested in Warlords if it were Starfinder instead of Pathfinder.

Certainly James Sutter has said the Starfinder RPG will integrate the setting with the rules.

I think the fact that star finder is so intimately wound with the setting it would not be a good fit for Warlords.  At least not as it has been presented till now.  When a game system is not designed to be setting agnostic it creates some significant difficulties in moving to a different setting.  For instance combat rules that make for good zero g Eva laser gun battles won't be particularly useful in representing a Zombie Apocalypse.  The pathfinder RPG line has done a pretty good job of being setting neutral so you are likely to only ever need to add to the ruleset to match your setting, not take away.  Given how starfinder has been presented I don't think it will be so.

t this point it should just be a stand alone game.  d20 pathfinder apoc would be a travesty.

I disagree about it being a standalone game.  I really have no interest in yet another system, or having system rules duplicated yet again so the item could stand alone.

In every D&D campaign I have ever run there has been a Gamma World adventure. And in every Gamma World campaign I have ever run there has been a D&D adventurer. So I am all for cross-compatibility. I am highly interested in Starfinder I will admit. I might even pay full price for a copy. Not something I do often. I am still looking forward to WofA.

What we promised the people who originally pre-ordered from Adamant was a Pathfinder post-apoc game. If the majority of them preferred it be Starfinder compatible, that'd be something to consider. But abandoning compatibility entirely wouldn't really be delivering on the project's original pitch.

Stick with pathfinder...it can be made to work with anything. I have played pathfinder with modern D20 rules blended in and it worked fine.

Hi Owen,

It has been a while since we heard anything about this, and now GenCon is over and you've had a chance to settle back into the grind, I was hoping that you could tell us if there was any good news.

Did you decide to go with Pathfinder or Starfinder for example?

Thanks,

Craig

I can't speak for Owen, but my assumption (and I preface this-merely an assumption) is that WotA is going to be in Limbo because of the release of Starfinder this summer.

That rule set will determine the underpinnings of any compatible post-apocalypse game. In fact, it might be on hiatus permanently depending on whether Paizo wants to put its own PA work out. Or it might be reconfigured into more of a campaign setting that a rules supplement.

Just some conjectures.

It is my hope that regardless of Starfinder's success that WotA does see the light of day. I've been here from the start and am one of the people that pre-ordered the book. It isn't even about the money. I just want to see WotA published.
