Robert “Bob” King and Hazel Bland ThomasAll members, Committee Chairpersons and friends are invited to join the Ward 5 Leadership Council for a status meeting on Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) education for seniors and vulnerable populations. The Planning meeting will be held at Denny’s on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at 1250 Bladensburg Road, NE. Meals will be self-pay. Please arrive early to order your meal and be served prior to the meeting time from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.
Our Democracy and Governance Committee under the direction of Robert “Bob” King, has organized this meeting to assess the status of DC Democratic State Committee’s lawsuit against the DC Board of Elections (DC BOE); and to explore alternatives to determining if DC BOE will have adequate time to assure equitable training for senior and special populations prior to the June 2026 Primary.
The Meeting Agenda will be as follows:
I. A briefing on a meeting with Monica Evans, Executive Director of the DC Board of Elections, regarding the “Leave No Vote Behind Assessment Report” - Robert “Bob” King - A discussion on the potential disenfranchisement of seniors and special populations due to inadequate training prior to the 2026 Primary.
II. An update on the status of the DC Democratic State Committee’s (DCDSC) lawsuit vs. the DC Board of Elections. – Dionna Lewis, Esq.
III. A briefing on whether it will be necessary to file a suit for conjunctive release to end the BOE lawsuit or if there is a potential for a class action lawsuit involving the “Leave No Vote Behind” Initiative. – Dionna Lewis, Esq.
IV. Councilmember Anita Bond’s DC Board of Elections hearing of the planning, training and implementation of RCV on Monday, November 24, 2025. – Bob King
