Subject: Let the DC Senators Speak at the Statehood Hearings!
Reply-To: and...@centerforcommonground.org

For the second time in American history, the Senate Homeland Security & Government Affairs Committee of the United States Senate will conduct a hearing on a DC statehood bill, S.51, on June 22, 2021.

DC has an elected Representative and two elected Senators; the Senators were told by the staff of Chairman Gary Peters that they are not welcome to participate in the hearing because the agenda had been set and their testimony was unnecessary.

This is urgent! Email Chair Senator Peters and Ranking Member Senator Portman today and tell them to Let the DC Senators speak at the DC Statehood hearings.

The residents of DC elected a Representative and two Senators (Senator Michael Brown and Senator Paul Strauss) for the sole purpose of representing the 712,000 disenfranchised citizens of the nation's capital. The residents of DC, in their effort to attain equality through statehood, have been silenced again by Congress. This is unacceptable.

Tell Chairman Peters and Ranking Member Senator Rob Portman that DC residents must have their voice heard in their quest for equality through statehood. In previous hearings the duly elected Senators were given the opportunity to make the case for statehood speaking for the residents of the District.

Use our tool to Email/Call and Tweet Homeland Security and Governance Committee Members Senator Gary Peters, Chair and Senator Rob Portman, Ranking Member.

In solidarity,

Andrea Miller
Founding Board Member
