Hello Ward 5 Community & Ward 5 Council on Education Members,

Below is a forwarded message from DCAYA that includes Ward 5 specific data.  Specifically, it is highlighting a blog, templates for advocacy, and their new report on funding and access to afterschool and summer learning in DC.  Please take the time to review the data and attachments.  If there are any agency specific questions, please feel free to reach out to Joseph Gavrilovich  at jos...@dc-aya.org

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at our monthly meeting at Lamond Riggs Library at 6:30pm!

Best Regards,
KaShawna Watson, President

I wanted to let you know we've released our new report on funding and access to afterschool and summer learning in DC. I appreciate that we had an opportunity to meet in February and discuss this project - the group's feedback was very helpful!

Download the report here: bit.ly/ELDCreport

I'm also attaching the executive summary and our fact sheet for Ward 5. The report is called #ExpandLearningDC and includes a useful new checklist of quality standards for out-of-school time program providers and the system as a whole. It details recommendations for scaling up funding and increasing access to out-of-school time learning opportunities for all DC students, and shares insights to help education policy makers and other leaders articulate a shared vision for expanded learning in DC.

We'll be promoting this report in the weeks ahead during DC Council's budget hearings, and will be using it in the months following to frame new policy recommendations for DCPS. We'd love to have you forward this email to the Ward 5 network, and share the link to our report as well as the link to our latest blog post on social media!

The new blog includes advocacy resources, including budget hearing signup information, a template letter for parents, language for tweets, and other resources: bit.ly/ExpandLearningDC

Please feel free to forward this email and share widely with your group and other networks, and welcome folks to reach out to us with any insights or questions!

Many thanks,
JWG
