Leadership Change in  Lok Satta Party Maharashtra: Lok Satta Party

Lok Satta Party announced the successful transition of its Maharashtra state leadership today. The new unit is represented by a physician, an engineer, a chartered accountant, a businessman and a banker amongst others.

Outgoing State President, Mr. Surendra Srivastava said on the occasion - "I know that I entrust our Maharashtra unit in the hands of leaders whose integrity and commitment to the principles of Lok Satta is beyond question. I believe that each of them are here for a purpose above petty individual interests and ambition. I am sure that they will continue to provide Lok Satta a moral compass that will lead the party to think of the good of the people and nation above individual gains."

Incumbent state president Dr Kedar Diwan who has been associated with Lok Satta since its days as an NGO remarked that he humbly accepts the trust reposed by other members of the Maharashtra Working Committee who elected him to the position. He set out this unit's objective to firstly attract competent people willing to pursue full time politics and secondly to strengthen Lok Satta's image as an option for such people. He stated that the new committee is undertaking a mission to ensure credible state level party elections within a year to let members decide and promote the next crop of talent. Dr Diwan is a dental surgeon by qualification and practices in Mumbai. He has been Mumbai LSP President during assembly elections in 2009, BMC & MLC from Graduate Constituency elections in 2012 and thus brings a rich experience which will immensely benefit the Party at Maharashtra level.  Universally acknowledged for his good nature and sincere desire to build consensus, he has built his reputation as a person of strong integrity and an expert in the area of implementing local governance reforms.

Mr. Rajesh Jogani was elected as General Secretary. Commenting on the occasion he said that developing solutions for sustainable funding of the party will be a key area of focus to ensure that party always continues to work in the interest of the citizens. He reiterated his belief that Lok Satta is one of the few parties with a clear agenda and a focus on bringing the "best and brightest" into politics. Growing the party in grassroots and beyond Mumbai will be another key area of focus. Mr. Jogani is a Mumbaikar and owns a family business. He has been active in the area of social service for many years. He joined Lok Satta due to its strong agenda of reforms. He contested in BMC elections with Lok Satta in 2012 and brings experience and perspective on standing for elections and the role that the party must play to support a candidate. He will be working towards attracting high caliber individuals aligned to Lok Satta values and culture to stand for elections on behalf of the party.

Mr. Suresh Nandawat was appointed by Dr Diwan as the State Treasurer. Mr. Nandawat is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has been Treasurer with the earlier State Working Committee as well.

The Maharashtra Working Committee comprises of seven life members who were recommended by the outgoing committee. The decision to appoint them was ratified by the state general council representing all state executive members of the party at a meeting held in Mumbai on May 4, 2013 & then ratified by the National President. These nominated Working Committee members elected the President and General Secretary amongst themselves. Other members being Dr. Ram, Pankaj, Parag, Shraddha and Dipesh.

Mr. Surendra Srivastava went on to add that the committee now represents new talent as well as old and experienced hands. Their common goal will be to identify and promote talent that is consistent, reliable and can lead the party to political success in the state. He emphasized his faith in the team's sincerity, collective intelligence, team spirit and willingness to carry common burden that can make them overcome the challenges before them. He further appealed to all Maharashtra members to extend their support through feedback, time and resources.

The new committee passed a resolution thanking the earlier Working Committee members for their efforts and specially acknowledged Mr. Srivastava's contribution and exceptional commitment to ensure that the unit did not stray into pursuing cheap and petty politics and to maintain a high standard of accountability. The team reiterated its commitment to grow the party upon what ever has been built so far.

Mr. Srivastava concluded by saying -"I have worked sincerely to the best of my wisdom and ability. More needs to be accomplished and it will be possible by collective ownership of Lok Satta's vision and goals. I am sure that Lok Satta will only grow faster, stronger and more formidable in Maharashtra in times to come."

He also said it is a matter of concern that both the Congress and the BJP at the national level are mired in a crisis and pointed out that in a large number of constituencies candidates spent Rs.15-20 crore each, reflecting the sad state of electoral politics. He appealed to the Congress and the BJP to put an end to their bankrupt vote bank politics and undemocratic tendencies and focus on constructive measures to bale the country out of the economic, political and administrative quagmire.

He said that voters in urban conglomerations are looking for an alternative to the traditional parties. and that the Lok Satta has the potential to emerge as the alternative if it strengthens itself in tune with people's aspirations.
