Could someone help me know how a womans assigned visiting teachers are
being displayed on other platforms of the app? The development specs
(http://code.google.com/p/wardtools/wiki/HandheldScreenLayout) show it
on the family view along with assigned home teachers. This works
great when there is only one adult woman in the family, or all adult
women have the same visiting teachers, but my understanding (and the
way I've always seen it done) is that each woman has their own set of
visiting teachers. So, for example, a mother and her 18 year old
daughter living at home would likely have their own visiting
teachers. We are trying to understand this so we can add it to the
Android app. How do the other platforms handle this case?

I have not been look at that page for working on the Blackberry, I guess I should.

For the Blackberry we put the HT and VT on the page that shows the family details, so at the bottom it shows who is assigned at HT and VT. We make the assumption the VT is set for the family, so I would not expect a second set of assigned VT. If a young woman lives at home, she may have her own VT, but she would not be listed under the family normally (if over 18, but not real sure what makes them not listed in a family and make them a individual record). So she would show up as an individual and have her own VT, if not part of a family that may have different VT.

That is my 2 cents, maybe Ross can explain how it can work as he is a clerk and knows MLS far better than anyone I know.

Within MLS, the VT assignment is defintely mapped to a sister, not to
a household.

Having said that, it is theoretically possible to map the sister's
assignment to a household. But then you would have to do one of two
things:

1) If you want a one-to-one relationship, you could join the VT
assignment only to a sister who is head-of-household or spouse. I
suspect that is what might be happening. (Another thing to check
would be the Household report in MLS. Dunno if the VT is included
there. There also is a funky CSV export called PalmFamily.csv (if my
memory serves), which contatenates all that stuff into one varriable-
length field. That CSV report might handle the VT logic this way.)

2) If you want to accommodate the odd many-to-one relationship (which
ought not to happen), then you would have to handle that complexity.
I doubt it is worth it. I don't think it is even valid within MLS to
assign a sister for Visting Teaching unless she is a head-of-household
or spouse.

You both made a good point, that if they are adults, they really should be moved into their own household record.  I'm sure there are wards that aren't doing this, so the app will need to handle this in some way.  Thanks for the info.  My gut reaction is to go with your first suggestion and just show it for the sister who is head-of-household, spouse, or oldest in the household (whichever one comes first).

Thanks for the help.
