Here is a little background. Calvin Gaisford was the original developer of
the application. He turned it over as an Open Source project some time ago.
He has been a little quiet in activity, as this thing can suck a lot of time
out of you. We have a guy named Ross that came up with a new database format
LDSql which is based on SQLite. I wrote a new conversion tool (in Java for
cross platform) to take the data and put it in the database. Only the
Android phone is using it today, which Steve and a small team are working
on. We had hoped for the Blackberry, but only the OS 5.0+ support SQLite on
the Blackberry. I had volunteered to help with the Blackberry Edition to
help me learn dev on that device. Another guy named Daniel Preece has helped
me with that version, it reads the MLS files from the SD card and then puts
the data in classes we created and persists those classes. All along I have
been trying to make sure my stuff can handle multiple languages, at least
remap the respective columns to the equivalent English ones.
The current version of Ward Tools for the iPhone, Palm, and Windows Mobile
is using the initial version which is PDB database format. The converter
tool looks specifically for the English headers in the MLS. If you were
ambitious you could make it more generic, but the reports PDB would also
need to be updated. I believe we had talked about a go forward version would
be to adopt the LDSql database. We are not sure if the Church will have a
similar product offering as they are very active in new open source
projects. Currently the LDSql database only supports Ward data not Stake due
to Ross not having access to Stake data and also being able to offer up some
sort of test data for developers to represent stake data (they asked the
Church in Salt Lake, but did not get approval for creating such a mockup of
data).
There is current an issue with reports not sorting correctly for the iPhone
version. If you would want to start there looking at the issue, it would be
helpful. The iPhone version is tied to Calvin so if you make a fix he will
need to publish to the Apple store.

Subject: [Ward Tools] Does it support Portuguese? I can help.
Hello guys. Im amazed to what this tool can do for the members. Im trying to
install everything on my iPod Touch here in Brazil, but after my tries to
convert the files into the pdb ones, I got to the conclusion this maybe
doesnt support the portuguese language, even renaming the csv files to those
examples at the Ward Tools website.
If this is really the the point, I'm willing to do the entire work of
translation. I can do the entire website and software translation into
Portuguese. I am a Elders Quorum president and work for a .Net and Apple
developer company. I am founder to the AnjoMoroni.com Blog, one of the
largest known Blog here. I really want it the be known. Please, tell me how
to help.
