In the final year of this initiative, Kresge Arts in Birmingham grants
will support innovative projects utilizing the arts as a tool to unite
Birmingham communities and address pressing social issues. Individuals
and groups are encouraged to apply, including all types of arts and
cultural professionals, neighborhood associations, service agencies,
community development groups, and arts and cultural organizations
among others. Projects must take place within the city of Birmingham.
Approximately $85,000 will be distributed this year. Applications and
information available here. This information session will provide an
overview of the KAIB program, eligibility requirements, project
guidelines and evaluation criteria, and application procedures.
Straight A's: Arts Advance Academic Achievement Program

Birmingham City Schools, in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of
Greater Birmingham, has been awarded $1.16 million by the U.S.
Department of Education to fund its Straight A's: Arts Advance
Academic Achievement program. Straight A's will explore the impact of
arts-integration academic partnerships between classroom teachers and
teaching artists on fourth grade literacy and mathematics skills. The
Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham is now accepting applications
from Birmingham-area professional artists for several contract
teaching positions associated with the Straight A's education program
that will be conducted in nine Birmingham City elementary schools over
a three-year period. Interested professional artists are invited to
attend this free one hour information session. Application
