To Whom It May Concern:

Laura Starecheski here, I'm a producer at a public radio show called
State of the Re:Union. Our show is about community across the US--
what binds people together, and what divides them-- and this week
we're in to Birmingham to do an hour-long episode.

We have a part of every episode where we ask people to write a letter
to their city or town. So, in this case, it'd be a "Dear Birmingham"
letter. We ask people in the place we're visiting: What would you like
to say to your city, if you could say anything? Whether people write
from a place of love, anger, humor, to express their likes or dislikes
or to break misconceptions-- we'd welcome whatever they have to say.
The idea is that I'd record some of those who submit letters reading
them while I'm in Birmingham this week, and then some of them
would be nationally broadcast as part of our show, as well as posted
on our website. The only requirements for the letter is that it be
under 400 words, and written to Birmingham in the second person, so
that it sounds like the letter's author is addressing their home. In
our experience, writers reading their letters work very well, but of
course the person would not have to be a writer. It could be anyone
who has a deep connection to Birmingham and the ability to communicate
that.

I'm searching out people over the next few days (apologies on the
extremely short notice). Interested folks can send in their letters
and
contact info to me via email as I'll be in Birmingham until the
morning of Monday, January 24. Let me know if you know anyone who'd be
willing to help out, and I'll get back to anyone whose letter we think
would work on the air to set up a time to come record them reading it.

Thanks in advance!

- Laura
