Important Message from Mr. Thompson

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On behalf of Wappingers Junior High School and the district, I would
like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of
Newtown, CT. The recent and unfortunate circumstances that have
occurred in Connecticut have pushed to the forefront more than ever
before the constant attention to school safety and procedure. While
senseless acts of violence are rare, we as a school community are
seeking ways to improve our building protocol.

In an immediate effort to improve our safety during the school day we
are requesting that parents use the front entrance (flagpole) of our
school to enter the building during the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.
The greeter’s desk will be on that side of lobby for the purposes of
identification and better visibility. Please use the parking spaces that
are located in the north side of the bus circle. This change will be
going into effect immediately.

Students may be dropped off for arrival in morning in the back parking
lot prior to 7:50 A.M. Parent pick up of students for dismissal will
still occur in the back parking lot during normal dismissal time. The
student dismissal in the back parking lot is monitored by school
personnel. Our faculty and school safety team met this morning to review
our school’s protocol and practice of the safety plan. This is and will
be a continued practice throughout the school year. The safety committee
along with school faculty members will continue to be vigilant in
regards to procedures providing and maintaining safety within the school
setting.
